ACODE has pioneered working on Science Technology and Innovation (STI) policy in East Africa Region which is crucial toward the integration of these countries. I would like to encourage them to continue working hard and expand their works on STI policies so that it became easier to find one publication with all necessary data and analysis for all EAC countries on different topics not only governance.

Being a member of Experts Panel who worked on the 1st Report on the Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in East African Community (EAC), launched in 2012, I gained a lot in my professional career. For example, before joining ACODE as a representative of the Government of Rwanda, in the capacity of Director of Research and Development, I did not have enough professional skills in Policy Analysis. But now I am able to analyse STI Policies and understand the linkages between the Governance of STI Policies and Socio-economic development of countries. The unique and innovative approach that ACODE Management has adopted in developing such biennial Report on Governance of STI in EAC is that EAC Partner States Officials are brought together with members from the Civil Society and make an independent critical analysis on the Governance of the STI Policies in EAC Region.

ACODE has contributed towards the socioeconomic development of Uganda. I have known it for more than three years for its high quality research work, bold advocacy, lobbying and information dissemination that cut across a range of issues. The Leadership of Dr. Godber Tumushabe and the entire staff especially the research team has done a great job of helping many Ugandans and the world to know the real issues affecting the community at home and beyond as they research, stimulate responsible and accountable local governance.policy advocacy and sensitizing people on real issues of great concern to policy makers and the beneficiaries/stakeholders. ACODE has been able to operate in a very trying time - but has consistently kept its eyes on the ball and been able to make quantum leaps where others faltered. The petroleum sector stands out - ACODE has served as a host organization for CSCO for over 3 years albeit threats from internal and external sources - it has also significantly left a mark on the way district local governments are run through the District Local Government Performance Scorecard.

ACODE is a policy think tank that has made a positive contribution to policy debates and the development of environmental policy in Uganda. It has engaged high level policy makers including Members of Parliament to prioritise environment in decision and policy making. It organises stakeholder reviews of the National Budget and analyses their contribution to the environment. ACODE has always advocated for increased public resource allocation to the Environment and Natural Resource sector. ACODE is a respected and reliable partner to Central Government agencies and departments that are engaged in environment.

Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE) is an outstanding organization based in Uganda. ACODE staff are professional, dedicated, very well-informed, and highly focused on responding to complex environment and development challenges by working directly with communities, challenging government policy and practices, drawing attention to issues of direct importance to future livelihoods in Uganda, and promoting alternative policy choices. ACODE's advocacy for the poor and for environmental issues is complemented by its efforts to inform policy through independent research of high relevance to citizens of Uganda, and to share that research and knowledge publicly. It is a champion of environmental well-being and wise use in East Africa.

ACODE is definitely a professional office, with a fairly solid core group of legal and policy activists. In that sense, I was very satisfied - and being a part of that effort was a very good experience. The work that ACODE does really is fantastic, and I was asked to do high-level work on many different projects. However, there was not a well-developed program for interns, and so I was often left unsupervised, and unsure what to do with my time (I tended to finish projects faster than they expected). Also, when I did have projects, they were not always explained clearly, which caused overlaps between my work and the work of others. I expressed these concerns with the people in charge, and they should be working to fix this for future interns.
