Mission: Adopt a pig's primary exempt purpose is to help patients and families cope with the treatment process while fighting pediatric cancer to raise awareness for children who are fighting cancer.
Programs: In june 2011, adopt a pig began providing something we call a "coping kit" to newly diagnosed pediatric cancer patients and their families at the nemours ai dupont hospital for children in wilmington delaware. In 2016, 63 coping kits were distributed, for a total of 280 kits since the program's inception. Each coping kit contains items identified by parents as helpful during their child's treatment. The items range from personal care items, gift cards for major retailers and gas stations, personal entertainment products and non-perishable snacks. Receiving a cancer diagnosis for your child is not something you can prepare for, and the goal of the coping kits is to provide much needed items to families as they face their greatest challenge.
in 2016, approximately 100 piggy banks were painted by pediatric cancer patients and survivors at area hospitals, the ronald mcdonald camp and related events. These piggy banks were adopted by individuals and businesses to raise funds and spread awareness.
