Mission: SharedCare''s mission is to improve the well being of communities by providing access to health care for uninsured low income residents and by developing innovative approaches to enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health. SharedCare, Inc. is governed by a broad consortium of community leaders from business, public and higher education, hospitals, community health centers, public transit and social service agencies. Partners work together to provide access to health care by spreading the burden of care equitably throughout the community. We began operations on March 31, 2003.
Programs: SharedCare's one-stop enrollment program allows qualified residents to enroll in the health care program most appropriate for them. From March 31, 2003 through June 30, 2008 we conducted more than 23,700 screenings and enrolled 7,958 individuals in SharedCare, and 5,892 in government programs. SharedCare members receive a wide range of free and/or reduced cost health services including primary care, specialty care, diagnostic and laboratory tests, outpatient surgery, physical therapy, urgent dental care and prescription medications. In 2007, we implemented two new prevention programs: a fitness initiative which provides access to exercise to prevent and manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity; and a community based health education program. Recognizing that good health behavior begins early, our early intervention program, The First Tee of Myrtle Beach, provides life skills development via the game of golf for young people aged 7 to 17.
