Mission: Fostering art and culture in acadiana - the aca provides education and outreach activities to all ages, grant funds and assistance to nonprofits, and visual art exhibits and performances in a state-of-the-art facility.
Programs: Visual art exhibits and performances - approximately 30 open-to-the-public and free-of-charge exhibits in 6 exhibit spaces received more than 27,000 visitors. Outside school system and nonprofit partners also utilized public exhibit space. The aca and community partners presented approximately 100 performances and cultural events. Performances and events included music performances in multiple genres, dance, theatre, spoken word, film, met opera live broadcasts and more to approximately 30,000 audience members.
community development - through state and local re-grant programs the aca's community development department (cdd) awarded almost $200,000 in grant funds to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools and universities in eight parishes in support of exhibits, performances, workshops, public art, audience services and more. Grants benefited 238,757 people, employed 1,887 artists, and helped 7,327 volunteers produce 1,932 arts activities. In addition, the cdd provided technical assistance in grant writing, arts advocacy, building participation in the arts, audience development, programming, project budget development, strategic planning, marketing, and volunteerism.
education and outreach - the aca's education and outreach department provides arts and cultural programming to students and teachers through touring arts performances, professional development workshops for teachers, teaching artist program, pace, creativity @ the center summer camps, and more. Touring arts reached 8,014 students and 381 teachers; 70 teachers and teaching artists attended 8 three-hour professional development workshops; 3,548 students participated in 172 innovative arts activity sessions in the teaching artist program; 1,680 pace sessions impacted 120 teachers and about 2,760 students; nearly 200 children attended creativity @ the center summer camps.
