Mission: Academy of Friends (AOF) was founded in 1980 by Kile Ozier as a small, private Academy Awards© party - 25 friends watching the festivities. Over subsequent years, the event became an HIV/AIDS fundraiser, a reaction to the toll HIV was taking on the local community. Today, the AOF Gala has grown into one of the most fabulous Academy Awards© Night celebrations outside of Los Angeles, and is one of the largest contributors to Bay Area HIV/AIDS service organizations, distributing nearly $7 million to 70 local organizations over the past two decades. Each year, the annual Academy of Friends Gala, distributes more than $400,000 to Bay Area HIV/AIDS service organizations, impacting the lives of nearly 200,000 HIV-positive people of every race, gender and socio-economic class. Through the generosity of individual Underwriters, gala ticket buyers and an illustrious collection of corporate donors, AOF continues to support the vital work of organizations providing critical services to those affected by HIV/AIDS. Until the pandemic ends, AOF is committed to raising funds by presenting quality, responsible events.
