I have volunteered in another helping agency for nine years now. My nonprofit (Jackson Neighbors in Need) deals mostly with heating in the cold months. We now realize that more help is needed in various areas. So in many cases UCM gives some help and JNIN gives some help to solve the problem. It has been a good working relationship. The workers at UCM are simply good people and are so friendly and nice to those in need. When their ability to help is used up, they are quick to recommend other helpers such as my group. UCM is a real asset to our county.
I am currently a volunteer at UCM and it is inspiring to see how much the staff cares about the community of Jackson County. This is a judgement free zone. No matter what your situation is, there is always a smiling face willing to assist. UCM also has great contacts with other non-profits in Jackson County. This allows UCM a broad spectrum of support. This way, if UCM is limited of helpful resources, we can refer an individual to an organization best for their circumstance.
I have volunteered at UCM for 13 years, served as treasurer for 6 years. I enjoy meeting our clients and getting to know them. All the volunteers are so caring and loving to each other and the clients. It is so rewarding to see how we can help those in a crisis situation. UCM is the only Christian ministry in Jackson County that helps with water bills, electric, rent and medical.

United Christian Ministries of Jackson County does a wonderful job of making clients feel valued and loved. Personal requests are met whenever possible and individual needs are considered. We do not use the “one size fits all” method of serving those who come to UCM. Each individual is of value and is treated that way. Volunteers go out of their way to be kind and considerate knowing that each client has a need, no matter how small, that can be met. If we are unable to respond to their request, we try to refer them to someone who can. We still try to meet any other need they may express and we share what we can with them, especially food, and do so with love.
An open place of care and encouragement in our county for residents who are food insecure, who are having a difficult time making ends meet, and who do not have established support networks. UCM provides a way for the community to support our neighbors in need with respect and confidentiality for those who have needs.
I have a long history with UCM. My mother and husband both volunteered there. I am currently a volunteer and serve as a board member, serving on the nominating committee. We call it the “little house of love” because there is an abundance of love that leaves there in serving the people of Jackson County.
I am both a donor and a volunteer. I see firsthand the generosity and support that UCM of Jackson County provides to county residents. They assist with food, shelter needs, utilities to name a few. There is no judgment when someone asks for help, just a kind response. They are truly the hands and feet of Jesus helping the less fortunate in our community.
I have served as a volunteer at United Christian Ministries for over 3 years and I'm currently serving my first year as a member of the Board of Directors. The church I attend has been a regular supporter for many years with both financial donations and shelf-stable canned goods which are collected each month during food drives.
UCM touches many lives by providing food, personal and household items to individuals living below the poverty level in this rural, Appalachian community. UCM also works collaboratively with other agencies to assist individuals needing help with rent, utility and heating bills as well as limited assistance with medical expenses.
