My son has a rare chromosome duplication, is on the autism spectrum, has ADHD, anxiety, and Oppositional Defiance Disorder, During his junior high years, he was extremely volatile, to the point of our family not being sure he could remain in our home. I contacted the Utah Parent Center and had a heartbreaking discussion about options for treatment and care. While the UPC wasn't able to cure our son, they gave our family the resources we needed to get through a moment of crisis and develop a plan for his care. Our son is now stable, thriving, and enjoying high school. He is happily involved in his Special Education classes and even attended his school's Homecoming Dance.
My son has XYY Syndrome, which causes some learning disabilities and behavioral issues. I utilize a Parent Consultant from the Utah Parent Center at all of his IEP meetings. She helps me navigate the complex systems of disability including special education. She has helped me feel supported, knowledgeable, and prepared to help my son be successful. All of the staff and their workshops are amazing as well!
The Utah Parent Center changed my life many years ago and has continued to be a source of information and support that makes this life doable and joyful!
From my first contact as a parent attending a workshop taught by another parent who was knowledgeable and skilled, I had more confidence and could advocate for my daughter so much more effectively. I almost always had great relationships with schools and other providers, but know that my daughter was better served and more successful because of all I learned from the staff at the UPC.
I'm so grateful that the Center continues to be a source I trust and know I can get the help I need from!
We have adopted three boys as babies with a variety of disabilities including severe autism,Fetal Alcohol Sydrome, and one son who weighed 1 pound 11 ounces born to a 14 year old. Having 4 biological daughters already was icing on the cake! My boys range in age now from 31,30,to 25 and I realize that if it wasn’t for wonderful organizations like The Utah Parent Center to help us we couldn’t have made it. The training and support saved us many times. I’m so great full to all the people who have donated to an organization that supports the individuals with disabilities as well as the kids and their families who desperately need assistance. Thank you all and thank you Utah Parent Center!
I am the mom of a beautiful son who lives with multiple disabilities. As we started our journey in special education I felt that I needed to "fight" for my son's needs at school. He had so many needs, he needed so much help. I felt like I would drown in the special education world without some help.
One day I got something by email offering IEP classes from the Utah Parent Center. I signed up the for class and attended with other parents like me. From that point on, I knew my responsibilities and my child's rights at school. I learned how to work with the school as a team, focusing on what my son needed to have an appropriate education. Life has been much better since I have learned these skills and I know that I can call the Utah Parent Center any time I have questions about my son's education needs.

I found out about the Utah Parent Center from another special needs parent, and it has been a fantastic resource for me and my autistic preschooler. I went to one of their IEP parent workshops and found it extremely helpful. One of their advocates, who's an experienced parent of children with special needs in the same school district as my child, attended my child's IEP meeting with me and helped me understand the process, which can be very complicated and overwhelming without help. I can't say enough good things about them and would recommend them to anyone who cares for people with special needs.
The Utah Parent Center is our choice for annual giving. The staff serves families of children with disabilities and special health care needs across the state of Utah with compassion and true understanding as the staff are also parents of children with disabilities. So they really have been there.
