Mission: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will be an educational leader among maritime museums by excelling in the preservation, interpretation, and study of the heritage of one of America''s major maritime regions - the Chesapeake Bay. Our vision is to provide our visitors with a vital and unsurpassed museum experience; to promote creative inquiry on Chesapeake history and culture; to expand our core collection; to extend our outreach programs and services; to plan effectively for the long term; and to provide an impartial forum and resource to serve the general public.
Programs: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum plays a vital role in preservation and appreciation of the significance of the Chesapeake on the lives of people who live, work and recreate on her waters. The Museum's 18-acre campus offers ongoing interpretive exhibitions covering Chesapeake Bay maritime history and culture including Native American life, Anglo-American settlement, 17th and 18th, 19th and 20th century trade, naval history, the Bay's unique watercraft and boat building traditions, navigation, waterfowling, boating, and seafood harvesting. The Museum comes alive daily through public tours, educational and sailing programs, lectures, concerts, cruises, and festivals.
