Causes: Civil Rights, Disabilities, Disabled Persons Rights, Down Syndrome, Health
Mission: It is the purpose of the National Down Syndrome Congress to create a national climate in which all persons will recognize and embrace the value and dignity of persons with Down syndrome. The National Down Syndrome Congress is a membership organization of parents, individuals with Down syndrome, professionals, friends and parent support groups all working together to promote the availability of and accessibility to a full range of opportunities and/or resources that meet individual and family needs.
Programs: Convention - annual conference held to educate parents, persons with down syndrome, and professionals on a variety of topics including healthcare, education, and advocacy. Ndsc's 42nd annual convention provided seminars on a variety of topics spanning the lifespan of individuals with down syndrome. Attended by over 3,400 participants from 49 states, the district of columbia, and 17 countries, the conference received strong reviews from attendees who participated in the general convention.
ndsc resource center - in 2014, ndsc continued its outreach to underserved populations, expanding its contact with hispanic, african american, and middle eastern families. Ndsc also has a government affairs function, which includes a representative in washington, dc who informs the membership of current legislative initiatives regarding down syndrome and related topics.
down syndrome news (dsn) - newsletter published bi-monthly to provide areview of current events, research, and other associated topics to members. Approximately 24,000 newsletters were distributed in 2014 to over 3000 members.
