Specialists offer assistance with access to local resources such as: entitlement and charitable aid programs, prescription assistance, housing stability, transportation options, supported employment, and linkage to medical care. Services may be delivered individually or in groups. Recovery-oriented groups, such as the family caregivers group, help for mom (treating postpartum depression), and illness management group, are specialized forms of community support.
medical and psychiatric services include medical evaluation and treatment for controlling or reducing the disabling symptoms of serious mental illness. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse specialists manage psychotropic medications to improve a patient's overall level of functioning. Practitioners may also identify related health / medical problems, then refer and collaborate with other healthcare specialists.
counseling / psychotherapy services provide individualized guidance and support by an independently licensed mental health professional. Counseling helps develop and improve coping skills essential to productive living. The goal is to restore individuals and families to their highest level of functioning - at home, at work, or in the community. Counseling improves abilities to manage depression, anxiety, panic, anger, post- traumatic stress, and other mood or behavioral disorders.
other program services include the partial hospitalization program, mental health assessment, award-winning recovery mental health programs such as the compeer program, family caregiver program, the "help for mom" program, art therapy, trauma recovery and mental health consultation and education services. All programs are nationally accredited by the joint commission and certified by the state of ohio mhas. Far west center is guided by a strategic plan developed with oversight by the board of directors.
