SOMI is the house with a heart, a drop-in center for people living with a mental illness who are in recovery. It opens at eight o'clock in the morning and closes at two in the afternoon. The hallmark of SOMI is its volunteer board. Members sign up to run SOMI each day: from kitchen duties, manning the front desk, running the store, keeping the inside and outside clean, to floaters who give volunteers a smoke or bathroom break. SOMI allows members to buy items their food stamps can't buy at fifty cents on a dollar. People receive a continental breakfast in the morning with a hot meal prepared by a great cook for their midday meal. People who attend SOMI really enjoy the camaraderie shared by all.
SOMI club provides individuals living with mental illness a caring, compassionate, and fun environment to do activities, socialize, or just hang out! The staff and peers there are awesome. Best place on the Gulf Coast!!
