Mary Proby / Volunteer

A Sister's Gift is an organization helping HIV women and families. This is a most neglected
group of women in our society today. It is a wonderful to see how Mrs. Edwards and others
are so involved in meeting this need with much love and concern. It is a blessing to hear the
testimonies of the many who are helped. You can be a

I came in 5 years ago for peer training on how to be an advocate. I have I learned to changed stigma that is associated with those who are living with the chronic illness. I have also learned to voice my beliefs my publicly and the women in the center have help me grown in ways I could've imaged. I loved that it is a woman ran organization in every aspect.

The ladies were very helpful from the first phone call and through the whole process. ASG has help me get back on my feet and I am very thankful for all the help and support they offer.

I have the pleasure of volunteering with this organization and I see the work that is performed by Ms. Edwards and her team to support the HIV community. They serve with love, patience, kindness and understanding. You get the sense that they truly care about the women they serve.

I am a new member/sister and volunteer at asg... This organization is solely built on love and empathy. I am honored to be a volunteer for such a good cause. And very thankful for the opportunity to connect with women like myself. This disease, I have will not be the legacy of my life, but the fight I give it will... I PLAN TO TAKE A STAND FOR ALL BLACK WOMEN TOUCHED BY THIS DISEASE. God bless you all

A Sister's Gift kept me and my 3 kids from being homeless. As a client of A Sister's Gift it amazes me how the previous comment by tabby201 proves how haterism among women still exists. If this person actually knew first hand about ASG services they would know ASG offers telephone referrals for men. I doubt the CEO could make people write reviews. However there is a sign in the office encouraging clients to connect on social media.

I have a hard time believing any of the reviews on here after learning that the CEO writes them for people and makes them post them as written. And out of curiosity why is it called A Sister's Gift if her brother died and lacked services and now she excludes men from being served? Huh?

This agency if far the best agency I have been around since my diagnosis. They make you feel respected after having every aspect of being a woman destroyed mentally and physically. The volunteers and office help is awesome. I would recommend this agency to any woman that has been effected with the HIV/AIDS virus.

I've received unique financial and social services from ASG that are not offered by other HIV+ agencies in the community. At ASG as a client I'm always greeted with a warm small and a hug. ASG intake process just takes a few moments and there are no waiting periods to access their services; for example, rental assistance /utilities assistance, groceries, bus cards, nutritionist, education and empowerment seminars and classes; cabbage and beans (hot home cooked nutritious meal delivered to your door); client advocacy, buddy program, annual client events celebrating mother's day and christmas.

I have been a client of A Sister's Gift for 4 years. I had a
difficult time identitying with local agencies in Dallas because I do
not resemble the typical HIV positive individual because I am a
mother. By Attending the group/life-skill classes and as a
recipient of the care and support programs I am now empowred to
have no fear of this disease. ASG's private intake location allows
me to continue to live anonymously with this disease because society
still makes judgments about people with this disease. ASG has shown
me how to fight quietly and with grace and I know I can make a
difference in getting "decision makers" to understand females living
with HIV and their children and families are in need of support
services.

Several years ago I was diagnosed being HIV+/AIDS. This was the most devastating events that I had ever been faced with. There were a number of organizations that focused on gay men, but there was a limited amount to assist and support women. A Sister’s Gift is an organization to assist and support women with not only groceries, clothing, housing assistance, but they provide knowledge about the disease and most importantly they offer hope.

I am a Board Member and active and passionate about women's issues and causes. This agency conducts business and services in a professional manner with a family-oriented philosophy. The organization provides direct aid to women with HIV/AIDS , especially to mothers who are need of groceries and housing assistance to avoid homelessness. The past few years have been challenging for the agency due to the economy but the board is working on many projects to increase our revenue.
