This organiztion has been a leader in environmental and economic issues in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 1973. The Pocono Northeast RC&D Council provides various types of assistance such as watershed management, reclaiming abandoned mine land, forest management, land conservation, educational camps for students, and many other activities for a diverse representation of projects and programs. The assistance provided depends upon the needs and resources of the local group or organization that has requested the assistance. Recently, the Council has focused on efforts to support alternative and renewal energy, biomass, private well owner assistance, and watershed stewartship across Pennsylvania. The main problem with the organization is that is does not let the public know about all its great work.

Mission: To enhance and imporve the ecological, cultural, and economical characteristics of the area through projects and programs that promote the management, protection, and utilization of the area's resources.
Programs: In response to pennsylvania's environmental challenges, the consortium for scientific assistance to watersheds (csaw) has since 2001 developed and implemented a successful capacity-building model that provides watershed grounds, lake management associations, and community and municipal leaders the necessary programmatic and technical assistance to effectively address local water-quality concerns, restoration, and protection efforts across the commonwealth,
provide technical assistance to the landowners of the counties of berks, columbia, montour, northumberland, and schuylkill in pennsylvania as they enroll and re-enroll in the conservation reserve enhancement program of the usda. In exchange for removing environmentally sensitive land from production and introducing conservation practices, farmers, ranchers, and agricultural land owners are paid an annual rental rate.
