What can I say? You will never meet such humble and respectful staff at the Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) than any other organization. They are truly a group of individuals who cares for and treat their clients, volunteers, and one another well – like a family. I am proud to say that I am part of KAFSC’s Volunteer Committee and that we are supporting the organization’s mission to create a violence-free society.
KAFSC is an incredible organization who does difficult yet important work in the community. They have a wonderful team of dedicated staff, board and volunteers.

This organization has taken on a huge role the community. It has been a service to those who are in need in the Korean American community. They have been very influential in spreading the word about domestic violence as well.

Thank you for your kind comment and we will continue our best to raise awareness of domestic violence issues in the underserved community and to support victims/survivors in most holistic ways. Thank you again for your support and partnership in this journey!
Volunteering becomes fun when you do it with the right people, and KAFSC has made me realize that. It is no exaggeration to say that KAFSC staff and volunteers are the humblest and friendliest people I have met. In addition, I particularly admire KAFSC’s approach to volunteering. It invests time in its volunteers by offering well-structured training sessions (e.g., domestic violence 101, meet and greet for annual gala). Such approach treats volunteers with care and respect and teaches me how volunteering experience can be and should be.
I am also impressed with the wide spectrum of services/programs KAFSC offers. They proactively and effectively tackle domestic violence and other issues our community faces today. Personally, I am involved in the Unni-Hyung Mentoring Program and really enjoy the one-on-one relationship I have cultivated with my mentee. I am grateful to be part of the KAFSC family and look forward to continuing the great work with them. Thank you KAFSC!

KAFSC is an amazing organization that has changed not only my life but that of a good friend. Thanks to KAFSC's culturally sensitive services, one of my friends and her mother were able to break free from a violent household and forge new, happier lives for themselves.
I volunteered with at the Hodori after school program and came to appreciate how KAFSC is truly committed to serving the community and incorporating its vision of a violence free society in all of its programming.

And thank you for having volunteered for our Hodori kids! We thank you and look forward to continuing working with you for our community and those in need!
I had never thought that YCPT would become such a big part of my life and ultimately shape the person that I want to be. But… Here I am writing about the extent to which YCPT has impacted my life.
I joined YCPT the summer of 2013 with the initial motif to get volunteer hours and find something productive to do over the summer. However, after several informative sessions about domestic violence, I realized that there was so much more to the program than simply receiving volunteer hours. I understood the seriousness of this crime that was so often silenced. My passion to advocate inclined as I attended more sessions.
Despite my original intentions, I am very grateful that I came into contact with the program. Through YCPT, I grew not only as an advocate, but also a leader. I was taught public speaking, leadership, and organization skills and the art of collaboration and its power in advocacy. When individuals unite and become leaders of their communities, the voices they speak with will be heard even louder than before.

Thank you for your kind feedback and sharing your awesome story! We are so glad to hear your positive experience of YCPT and how that has helped you to play your own an active role in the community as an advocate. We thank you and look forward to continuing working with you for our community and those in need!
Many high school students tend to forget about their role in the community and how privileged they are to have an education. Although students are often busy with academics, it is essential for students to be involved in their local community. Every individual has the power to influence change for the better. I acknowledge the importance of giving and sharing my voice to society. Every Friday, I use my personal time to volunteer. From February 2014 to present time, I joined a student led group called Youth Community Project Team (YCPT). YCPT is led by local high school students who are passionate about creating positive changes in the community. Through weekly discussions and analyses of the community’s needs, we design and conduct our own projects to assist the needs of the community. Every Friday, we lead discussions about different issues affecting my local community and ways students can contribute positive changes to each situation.
Working with a group of dedicated students taught me that one person can influence change. Under the YCPT, my role may be small; however, working with a team of passionate individuals allows me to give back to my community in many different ways. Students at YCPT are advocates for eradicating domestic violence and sexual assaults. We learn about healthy and unhealthy relationships and discover ways to improve communication among people. Many events like the Silent March, Purple Run, and the 5k Run are ways to educate people and provide support to domestic violence and sexual assault victims. Once, we stood for hours outside in the cold weather to spread awareness about domestic violence. This organization not only brings awareness to the people about domestic violence, but it also provides counseling and financial aids to the victims. I strongly believe that our efforts are slowly changing our communities for the better. Although, many of our projects do not have a direct outcome, we hope that spreading awareness about these issues can decrease the number of victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.
After participating in YCPT, I learned about the problems around our communities and ways to spread awareness about it. I grew mature from this experience and discovered my voice in the community. We all have a voice, and it is up to you to decide whether or not to use this ability to help others. I believe that young people should give back to their community because we can all make a difference. We just have to take the first step to start. I envision a world in which everyone are able to freely voice their thoughts and opinions.
At the end of the day, I know that I have made a difference. Community service is not a waste of time or just to have credits for graduating high school. Contributing to the community gives me a sense of satisfaction and happiness.
#ycptkafsc. I love YCPT!!!!!

We thank you so very much for sharing your story and positive feedback and look forward to continuing working with you for our community and raising awareness about domestic violence. Don't forget about #YCPT alumni group! :)
KAFSC helped me spark my passion in preventing domestic violence. At first, I was indifferent about the topic of domestic violence, simply because I had not experienced it first-hand. But as I spent more time with the people here, I began to grow into a more compassionate individual, being concerned about others' well-being and voicing out against the silenced atrocity of everyday people. The staff members' passion definitely influenced others like me, and I am really thankful for that.

KAFSC is a wonderful organization. As a KAFSC volunteer, I have been blessed to be able to work with their staff to help support my local community- especially women, victims of domestic violence, that need help. I am grateful for KAFSC's service to our Flushing community. My little sister went to their preschool program Hodori and she will be graduating from high school this month. I am grateful for the ability to volunteer in this amazing organization and I know firsthand that KAFSC staff are truly passionate about their mission and cause.

Thank you so much for your review. How amazing and rewarding to hear your sister - our Hodori after-school program alum- is successfully graduating from a high school. Our heartfelt congratulations to her! We are so lucky to have volunteers like you and hope your sister can continue getting involved with us. We look forward to our working together towards KAFSC's mission!
When I look back as a YCPT leader from the first time I came to YCPT until now, I still can't believe how much we've grown. I have to admit that at first I wasn't too impressed. It was a small group without much of a claim to fame in the community. I had thought it would be just a regular community serivce group with nothing special. But was I wrong. YCPT exceeded my initial expectations. At first, I joined because I needed community service hours and my mom had found YCPT in the korean newspaper. I thought, "Okay, so I guess I'll go. " I was welcomed with a first day party along with other new members. During an icebreaker game, I was asked what my expectations were from YCPT. I honestly answered that I never really thought about it. (At the time, I really didn't think that far ahead.)It was awkward in the beginning. I was surrounded by new people and felt overwhelmed. Yet at the same time, I kept coming back to the weekly team meetings. Before I knew it, I was gradually participating and talking to other members of YCPT. I actually got used to the YCPT people quickly, which doesn't happen normally when I'm stuck with a bunch of new people. Something about the group drew me into it. Soon I made friends and found myself taking an active voice in our team meetings. (Usually, I sit back and just hope to slip by.) By joining YCPT, my social skills have improved. I don't find talking to new people as weird as I would've felt before. Eventually, I became a leader. Being a leader has been a lot of work. The projects we do aren't easy. Some have required long hours into the night! On top of that, the other leaders and I had the responsibility of leading our team. It's tough especailly for me because I'm infamous for being a push-over. (My friends always say that I'm too nice.) Until now, I'm working on developing leadership skills without being harsh. (Yes, I'm slowly getting there.) But I couldn't have gotten far without my YCPT friends and YCPT coordinator, Marie. Marie has always welcomed me since the welcome party. She always made sure that I wasn't alone in corner and helped me to open up. Marie created many chances for me to become more outgoing and less tense. She encourages me and the team to talk to each other and have fun. I feel like she understands the youth. Marie knows how to make a comfortable, cozy environment. She has a lot of patience with us and knows how to be fair. She works with us and adds fun to the work. Marie is definitely a person who has made a positive impact on my life. I'd say that she's the best coordinator! My YCPT friends are a quirky group. I can't describe them with one word. They're a lot of different things. But, they are NOT boring. I've met people from other parts of Queens, Long Island, Upstate New York, and New Jersey! My YCPT friends are awesome and fun to be around. Weekly meetings are never dull as a result. Each friend has brought something new to my life. Everything from their tastes in music to new foods to amazingly random stuff came into my life. I love how each of them have original personalities that I'd never encountered before. Other than my school friends, I consider my YCPT friends as my 'second family'. Besides building a community within our group, YCPT has done numerous hands-on projects that get everyone involved. We've helped our community through fundraising and doing various activities. We had done things from coffeehouses to sorting through baby toys. It's a lot of fun and hard work. The projects are very time-consuming. By the end of the day, we get everything done. YCPT is a group that I recommend to anyone who wants to meet awesome new people and get service hours. It can be intimidating at first, but you'll open up to YCPT. It can catch you by surprise.
KAFSC is a very interesting program i thought its be boring at first but everyone was nice and helped me along the way its the best volunteer service team!!! i love ycpt because we helped those in need while having fun as well
The Korean American Family Service Center and the Youth Community Project Team has been my home and a home for many others. The love and the caring hearts that each and every volunteers share are filled with passion. My experiences with YCPT/ KAFSC were experiences that I would never forget and never regret having. I have volunteered in YCPT for about 4-5 years and my peers and fellow teachers have been like a family. Even when I was someone who was not social enough to do community work, the YCPT members always encouraged me and other people for the sake of the community that we live in, and have been and still are aiming to become huge benefits to the Korean and American neighborhoods. In YCPT, we have done many events, these are some of the many events: prevention of teenage drug abuse, against domestic violence, fundraising for the needy (homeless), NY care projects, Coffee Houses, and our latest Senior and Youth night. We have had many experiences with helping the people in our community, and every YCPT member persevered during the events. In YCPT, my fellowship with my peers will always be kept precious. An experience that I cherish the most from all the events that I have faced in YCPT is the Senior and Youth event that happened not to long ago. The Senior and Youth event was an event created to aid the senior citizen center financially, and the event began in the beginning of Summer 2009. I remember how my peers and I went to Main St in Flushing, NY to hand out fliers and paste the posters that we made on walls of supermarkets ,etc. That time I knew how important YCPT was to me. The bond I made with them instantaneously helped to be comfortable and happy when I spent my time doing the volunteer activities with my friends of YCPT. It made me notice how precious YCPT is for me. I guarantee that people who join YCPT will have a bond with each and every other member in a blink of an eye. This bond that we have is what makes me be proud of being a member of YCPT. Although we might of had hard times, we fought through it together and made it to the position that we are in today. In my opinion, YCPT/ KAFSC is the number 1 volunteer organization! YCPT/KAFSC Forever!!!
As someone that works both on youth development and the Korean American community here in NYC, I can attest to the great impact the Youth Community Project Team has on Korean American teenagers. KAFSC's dedication to young people and their mission in involving them within the community is immeasurable. Keep up the great work guys!
YCPT is just simply amazing, and truly is an outstanding volunteer service organization. It gives youth an oppurtunity to help others in our area and to become greatly involved in the community. K.A.F.S.C has a strong commitment in making our community a safe and enjoyable place to be at.
I was very lucky this summer to have found out about Y.C.P.T. At first, I was not interested in the group, because I am a shy person, and I'm not very outgoing or good at making friends. By the time I had to get ready for the third meeting, I was so excited to meet my new friends, while participating in a project that helped my community. This group has given me confidence, changed my personality so that I am outgoing and happier, and stored in me strong sense of leadership. This program is extremely beneficial to everyone.
