My Name is Brandy Thacker(White) when i was younger my mother and my three sisters lived in the safe place due to my mothers relationship with my father. They were always amazing towards us and opened us up to things we would have never experienced before. They treated us with nothing but respect and helped get us back on our feet. The staff was always amazing and talked us through any problems we have ever had! I would like to think everyone that worked in Safeplace when I and my family were there they were wonderful!
I only give 1 star because I cannot give less.
I have waited a very long time to respond because I knew in the thick of my nightmare my story would be dismissed as me either trying to influence my own case or simply bitter angry.
If you want to be SAFE and get real and meaningful help then spare yourself the nightmare and never, ever go near SafePlace. Go to One Place, plain and simple. And do not bother to waste your time and energy with Kristy Blesinggame. SafePlace will never protect an abuse victim. They are FAR too busy getting their panties wet for charming abusers to the level they will GIVE AN ABUSER ACCESS TO THEIR CONCEALED SHELTER.
Montgomery was helpful. Limestone County was helpful. Florence Police was somewhat helpful but they defer to Kristy who follow any abuser with money and power and pee her pretty little panties for them. One Place is dedicated and committed. But SafePlace is nothing but an abuser’s paradise.
They will not merely help your abuser, not merely stand beside any abuser with a tiny bit of money and power but they will stand beside the man who raped you and beat you in court until they are legally barred from continuing, and then they will assist in stalking you and harassing you all over the area long afterward.
Do not EVER seek help from SafePlace...unless you are an abuser looking for a cover to legitimize your abuse, in which case Safe Place is your go-to one stop House is horrors.
This is NOT the place to go if you want to make it out alive. They let an abuser charm his way not merely into services but into the actual shelter. And despite sitting in court and HEARING him testify that his wife had never laid a hand on him but that he had hit her frequently and had raped her in the days leading up to when he talked his way into their shelter, they continued to colluded with him in abusing his victims for six more months until the judge intervened and made them stop. Furthermore when the courts threw out his claims of abuse they “forgot” to update their system so that when his victim finally did turn to them for help, they attacked her yet again.
Here’s a clue, when a man shows up asking for services and you tell him his story doesn’t add up and he has no evidence, maybe you need to question HOW he managed to create that evidence when he comes back a month later. In this case, he tried to kill his wife by taking her off her thyroid medicine and then waited until she was unstable medically and threatened to take her kids (again). Doctored the text message fight and viola, 12 hours after he was turned away the first time he fabricated the ONLY evidence he managed to secure and use to con the entire shelter program when he came back a month later.
So...if you are actually looking for a SAFE place to turn then know SafePlace took that man into their shelter, and they helped him try to destroy his wife when she was resilient enough to survive that attempt at killing her and several after that.
There is NO excuse for the shoddy care of this joke of a shelter. Montgomery had to provide a waiver for the woman to use Limestone County services. Not one person from Limestone County to Montgomery to experts such as Lundy Bancroft and Kathy Jones had EVER heard of a DV shelter getting it so very WRONG like SafePlace in Florence. The damage done to that woman and her children is incalculable. The fact a man that abusive and manipulative KNOWS WHERE THE SHELTER IS should terrifying anyone considering seeking help there.
Stay away. Seek services elsewhere where the incompetence is not so blatant.
