I can’t say enough wonderful things about A3P! Volunteering with this animal rescue has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The team is incredibly dedicated, compassionate, and truly puts the well-being of every animal first.

From providing essential medical care to creating loving environments for animals to thrive, every detail is handled with care and professionalism. It’s clear that the volunteers are deeply passionate about their mission, and their hard work shines through in every happy adoption story.

The rescue also does an amazing job educating the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of adoption. Whether you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, or support through donations, I can’t recommend A3P enough. They are changing lives, both animal and human, every single day.

Let me know if you want to add the rescue’s name or any personal touches!

It has always been my mothers dream to have the opportunity to save and advocate for animals in need and find them the perfect homes where they will live happy and care free, and full of love from amazing owners. Now that she has started on this journey, she pours her heart and soul into every aspect of this organization to benefit as many pets and people as possible.

I received an urgent placement call from A3P last year. They had an 11 year-old Shih tzu named Gus that was being surrendered from the only home he grew up in. They knew I had a senior Shih tzu of 12 years and felt it would be a stable foster home for Gus. I was very nervous as a solo dog owner but A3P supported me in helping Gus acclimate. I did not know what to expect from Gus, however the transition went smoothly. Gus entered our home and just melted our hearts from day one. One month later we officially adopted Gus and never looked back. This story would not be possible without the endless support of this nonprofit. They know their community and how to professionally provide assistance through education, safety and home placement for all their clients. Most importantly they have given numerous animals a second chance to live a great life that they deserve. Kudos to this hard working group for their long hours and volunteerism in our community. Thank you for selecting us to be Gus's new family. We could not imagine life without him!!

I can't even begin to express the level of gratitude I have for this organization, and specifically for Maria. She is truly a guardian angel of the furry ones. A few months ago I began my quest to help my Dad with a growing cat colony on his property since most were not spayed/neutered. I started to research the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program and reaching out to different organizations for information and potentially some assistance. I hit the jackpot when I heard back from one of the many calls I made - Maria. She provided me with a wealth of information through multiple phone conversations and via text. She also offered to help me - that was music to my ears. There were a total of 12 kitties, 8 needed to be neutered. It was a multi-day process and Maria was there helping me through it all. There were a few kitties friendly enough for adoption, as discerned by Maria. Including a photo sampling of these kitties here, now in my foster care looking for the right home.

I first found them in 2022 when I had bought a house and the kids wanted a dog. We met first the staff was very helpful and kind and you could tell they all have lots of love for all of their animals. Just recently I fostered a dog with a broken leg and of course I failed and he’s now mine. However, again anything I needed I was provided it immediately as well as any questions I had were answered right away. Today I am attempting fostering again. I love this center and how they care for all of these animals as if they were their own. If you are ready to open your home to a dog or cat I highly recommend you check here first!

We adopted two, purrfectly delightful, young cats from this clean and well-run rescue. The cats are affectionate and used to being handled and pet and loved. This is the reason we chose this place. We shopped around and no other rescue had such happy and friendly cats. The cats' medical care was current and thorough. Plus, Maria is a gem! She loves all of the little friends in her care. Four paws up and four thumbs, too! We are thankful for the Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets!

We had such a wonderful experience adopting our two kitties through A3P! Everyone we spoke to was extremely kind, patient, knowledgeable, and very helpful. They clearly care deeply about what they do and they are very good at it, too! The space is clean, the animals are healthy and cared for, and the staff were very inviting. We're over the moon! I recently had an unforgettable experience with the Humane Society of Northern Virginia, all thanks to the incredible efforts of Maria Organt. In a time of desperation and concern for a helpless cat, Maria's kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment shone like a beacon of hope.

One day, I stumbled upon a cat in a sewage area within my neighborhood. Determined to help, I managed to uncover her microchip information, revealing a glimmer of hope in reuniting her with her owner. With the clock ticking toward closing time, I reached out to the Humane Society for assistance.

Enter Maria Organt. From the moment I connected with her, Maria's professionalism and genuine care were palpable. Despite the late hour, Maria was extremely willing to track down the owner's information, making calls to various places in a bid to ensure the cat's safety and well-being. Her dedication to going the extra mile, even when faced with obstacles, was truly heartwarming.

Despite her valiant efforts, we were unable to reach the owner or the shelter where the cat was adopted from. This is where Maria's compassion truly shone through. Rather than letting the cat's fate hang in the balance, Maria took it upon herself to ensure the feline friend, Pumpkin, found a safe haven. Her eagerness to make space and offer Pumpkin a nurturing environment until the owner could be located or a new loving home could be found was a testament to her unyielding love for animals.

In a world that can often feel indifferent, Maria's actions stood as a stark reminder of the impact that a single individual can have. Her dedication to the well-being of animals, her refusal to give up in the face of adversity, and her genuine kindness toward both creatures and humans alike are qualities that deserve to be celebrated.

As a grateful witness to Maria Organt's unwavering commitment, I can wholeheartedly attest to her exceptional character and her vital role at the Humane Society of Northern Virginia. Pumpkin's story serves as a testament to Maria's compassion and the countless other animals she has undoubtedly aided along the way. The Humane Society of Northern Virginia is truly fortunate to have such a remarkable and compassionate individual in their ranks.

Thank you, Maria, for being a beacon of light for animals in need.

Adopting our new dog Spartacus has been one of the best decisions we've made- and we couldn't have asked for a better organization than A3P to do it through. The process was simple and keeps the wellbeing of the animal at the forefront of discussion- with excellent and friendly employees to help guide you. You leave positive and confident- with more knowledge on how to care for your pet than you went in with. They're easy to reach out to even after the process has been completed in case you have any questions or concerns. It was absolutely worthwhile to introduce a new member to the family!

My experience with Humane Society of Northern Virginia was excellent! First class!!!
We worked with Maria and her Staff. Maria is a wealth of knowledge and has the interest of these animals as top priority, and I’m telling you she knows what she’s talking about. We received so much information about interaction, food/water, toys and supplies. Even recommended a book to help, and absolutely no push or pressure to make any commitments.
There is a good screening process to adopt and rightfully so; it’s kind of the reason all the animals are there in the first place.
Don’t let the price scare you away. It’s a non-profit (A3P), so it goes to the massive amount of expenses, and… it’s a tax right off! So it comes back to you. (Save the receipt).
My wife and I feel really confident with our cat. He had quite the history ( which was rare with the animals currently there, which is a good thing) but we felt that we could meet his needs.
Great experience. Clean and required to wash hands and wipe shoes. The kittens have their own room, and are out! It’s so good for them compared to other places where they are just caged forever until…
Again, Maria and staff were awesome and we highly recommend Humane Society of Northern Virginia in Dumfries.

Last year we adopted our sweet and beautiful kitty, Diamond, from A3P. The staff was so caring and patient while we made the difficult decision of which cat would fit in our family best. When Diamond slipped out an open door last month Maria scoured the neighborhood, hiking the woods with me searching for her, smearing cat food on all the trees near our house and giving me tips on how to get her back. Within 2 days she was home. We couldn't have found her without the help of A3P. The whole team sprang into action, posting lost pet notices online, making, printing and posting flyers up all over the neighborhood. I'm forever grateful to them for helping us find our baby girl .. twice. If you are looking for a pet, please check out these experts.

First and foremost Maria is amazing. She is strong but not overbearing, passionate, knowledgeable and concerned. If you decide to adopt from the Humane Society of Northern Virginia, you will leave there with the confidence and knowledge you need for raising your new little family member.

I have grown up with cats (though I haven't had any in a while), and knew some of the challenges I would face once I adopted and I brought them to their new home. With Maria's guidance, I prepped the home with scratching posts, a tree, cat boxes etc. and the transition was so smooth (though I know not everyone will experience this). My little guys, immediately recognized all of their toys, the cat boxes and places to play and scratch on.

I attribute this to the Humane Society of Northern Virgina and the space they have created for the cats. When you walk in, it literally is a space that has cats just running and playing about. Scratch posts, toys, litter boxes and trees for them to play on, scattered everywhere. You really get to sit down and just surround yourself with these little guys and watch them, their temperament, body language and personality. Initially I saw pictures of their cats online and had a couple picked out before I arrived. I left with two completely different little guys, that fit me, my kids, our personalities and homelife. Their set up allows for you to find and perfectly pair with your new family member. I highly recommend the Humane Society of Northern Virginia and plan on coming back to maybe bringing home another little guy. I would not go anywhere else.

Thanks Maria!

Where's the 10 star button @? Sherry and the crew running A3P are the most amazing group of people who truly care for animals. They take in those animals who are unwanted or "too far gone" and they give them a caring, loving home. Every animal is treated with dignity and love. A3P provides health and wellness treatment and nurses the animals back from sometimes horrific circumstances. They are painfully thorough in their vetting process for adoption, because they care about the animals and their future homes. A 10 second conversation with any of these folks and you'll immediately realize the compassion and loyalty they carry for the animals they save. I'm so proud of the work this team continuously puts in to saving and caring for animals that wouldn't survive without their intervention. Thank you Sherry & Team for all you do! This world would be amazing with more people like you. God Bless!

I found this organization while grieving the loss of 3 dogs in 2021. I was only looking to give away medical supplies and somehow ended up agreeing to be a foster mom with A3P after I chatted with the amazing Sherry. My foster girl is a senior pup that has renal failure. This organization has given this sweet dog more time on this earth by providing her quality food, medical care, and the opportunity to be loved in her own home even though she is terminal. Initially, her expected lifespan seemed to be months, but she is approaching a year under A3P's care and is thriving! I would recommend A3P for anyone looking to get involved with a rescue or to adopt a new bestie.

We lost our 12 1/2 year old Beagle/Boxer mix, Roxy, to cancer in July 2020. My wife and I were absolutely heartbroken! My wife wasn't interested in getting another dog, but after her mom passed away 2 months later she was more open to the idea, but it had to be the perfect dog. Fast forward to November when I received an email from A3P Rescue about a Pocket Beagle rescue. She was less than 1/2 the size of our Roxy, but it said she had a sweet disposition. I called Sherri and made an appointment to meet her on a Sunday. She was Adorable! I played with her for3 hours, when we met she jumped up and kissed my nose. I told Sherri I wanted her, but I had to get my wife's approval. We came back two days later and my wife fell in love with her. We brought her home that day. It was coinsidental that her name was also Roxy (or was it?).Sherri was great with the process and Roxy has been a boon to our lives. Thank you for this loving little girl!

I have been volunteering with A3P ever since the beginning. It has been such a pleasure watching them grow and be successfully in every little way. I have not only volunteered but I also foster for A3P as well. I have been a foster fail to 4 cats that I have adopted through A3P. I adopted Simone and Porky which they are the first cats I had ever adopted in my life. They are both about 2 years old now and they couldn't be any more happier with life. After, I adopted them I decided to forster again and we ended up adopting Lilly in too the family. She is still a kitten but if she isn't the most sassiest cat but very unique looking cat we have. Than I was like thats not enough we need more cats in the family! I foster failed again and now we are adopting another and his name is Joey. Joey came to A3P with a messed up eye that has now been treated and looks awesome. I took him in to foster him and he has been such a trooper through everything he has had to overcome with in life so far. He is currently loving life with all his awesome siblings and is loved so much. A3P has done so much good to the animal community that I know they will continue to grow and do great things!

Where do I begin! Sherry was amazing helping me through the adoption process of my very first kitten! I was a cat sitter for my grandma on occasion but never had one of my own! I found AP3, visited the Facebook page and decided to give a call! Sherry was very kind, genuine, and informative when I told her I was looking to a adopt. I filled out my online application and we coordinated to schedule an appointment ASAP. My dad and I arrived at the home with all the kittens and she told us a little bit about each and every one of them! I don’t even know how she remembers all their names!! After about 45 minutes of deliberation, I was taking home Suzy! She’s a sweet and beautiful Maine coon with a tabby coat. Sherry walked us through the proper contract paperwork while continuing to provide us with all the information we needed to know before taking her home! She also walked us through Suzy’s medical records and broke every thing down so we understood how to keep up with her vaccines and everything! I honestly don’t know what else to say, she was amazing! The whole process of discovering Ap3 and adopting Suzy took one week, super fast! I appreciate everything and can’t thank Ap3 enough for allowing me to welcome home a new addition into our family!!

Advocates For Abused And Abandoned Pets (A3P) is a TOP NOTCH rescue group! The care and love that they give to all pets is second to none. A3P genuinely cares so much for animals in need that they are frequently contacted by other rescue groups for help. Once A3P takes guardianship of any pet, that animal instantly becomes part of the 'pack'. A3P is a small rescue group, compared to many others, but their #1 goal is to save as many animals as they can! A3P takes each & every adoption seriously. Each potential adopter is thoroughly vetted. Although having high numbers of adoptions is a goal for many rescues, A3P is ALL about finding the perfect fit, so that the animals truly find their forever home and family!
