I am the President of a small, local nonprofit in Butte County called The Butte County Local Food Network who gets to partner with From The Ground Up on projects that feed people. Just have to say that Jenny, David, Tami and the other Board members have worked tirelessly for our community. Their nonstop service is wonder to behold. All they do is centered on health and creating a stronger more resilient community, whether it be getting debit cards to people for healthy food, growing food in their amazing community garden, working hard to get propane to folks, making sure their community gets counted in the census, working as advocates for those impacted by the Camp Fire and SO much more. They are ALWAYS focused on how they can connect dots and get attention and survival resources to those who need it most. I am honored we get to work with them.
The love pouring out of these people and their smiles is a light at the end of a tunnel! Actually, they light up the entire tunnel! They have been so sincere and kind through all of these disastrous times here in Butte County. They are constantly thinking of ways to help our small, rural community of Concow. From gas cards to food distribution, they do it all! Buying a wood mizer wood mill and allowing us to turn dead burnt trees into lumber is only ONE of the helpful projects they have taken on. Due to their generosity and genius, my family of six were able to sleep in a “tiny home” that my husband built with milled lumber. In a camper, when the winter winds blow, you feel like you’re on a ship. I felt ever so grateful to be inside a building, nursing my baby and watching the trees dance and sway in the winter storms. We had stable walls and didn’t rely on the camper for sleeping. The mental health boost alone is worth a life time of thank yous!! They are also closely related to a community garden that is still happening even though COVID makes things hard. They have the best intentions and make things work! Many hands make work light, and they lighten up everything they touch. Their logo of a light bulb is so fitting. We are forever grateful for all their help. **Pictures are of an art day I did with the local kids in the tiny home/shed (so you can’t share that one since I did not get their parents’ permission) and the other pic is my baby in the tiny home/shed before we even had insulation. Last picture is my husband and sons helping put up trim.
From the Ground up Farms has helped my family and my community countless times! They are amazing, hardworking and kind people. This organization has made Butte County a better place to be!
It's been such a pleasure seeing it grow, everybody is always so nice. We enjoyed helping in the garden in the past and hopefully in the future
I’m a member of the small community of concow. A small mountain community that was affected by fires and especially devastated by the 2018 camp fire. This organization has stepped up and helped provide the means to help people help themselves like getting a mill so people can use their own trees or local trees to rebuild. They’ve helped the local school getting funding for play equipment and they care about the nourishment of the community from food to shelter and mind. I’m very impressed with their work and so thankful their presence. The world needs more inspiration and love like that that has been bestowed on the concow community by From the Ground Up Farms INC.
The engagement with kids and improvement and beautification of important community places like the Torres Shelter and Kentfield Gardens in Chico - where most of the volunteers don’t even live - is valuable to our whole area.
I started with helping From The Ground Up Farms when they just got their gardens in Chico. What a joy it has been to watch them grow their non profit from one garden of sharing to many. I have watched the children learn in the garden, eat in the garden and now cook in the garden. From the Ground Up Farms has also been very instrumental in helping a lot of families get back to business up in Concow after the fire. I have watch Jenny Lowry and Bruce Matthews work tirelessly to help those in need, not only with organic food but with the day to day needs of families that have lost. These guys are the real thing and Love makes them grow. ty ty ty.

I was involved in the start up of From the Ground Up and I can tell you that I have never met a more dedicated group that totally believes in what they are accomplishing. Getting together with new and old friends to put in a veggie garden that will help people feed themselves is totally rewarding. To spread the news about organic foods and what they can do for you is what this country needs and we also need to understand that any of us could be homeless next week. With caring people out there you can get through anything. FEEL THE LOVE
The great thing about From the Ground Up Farms is that they help provide people with what they really need and can use to improve quality of life in the long run. By connecting local people to local products they keep resources in our community. From the Ground Up Farms has provided my rural community with the fresh food that is so important for nutrition and mental health. Through them I have received gift certificates for groceries at the places I actually shop. After the Campfire I benefited from their fruit tree giveaway and now have beautiful apple trees on my property. They procured a grant for a community mill so trees that were lost during the Campfire would not go to waste and could be used to rebuild homes and farms. When people mill their own wood from their own trees they are empowered with a sense of control and accomplishment as they navigate the process of rebuilding. From the Ground Up Farms always provides useful information about available resources, community events, and stories of self-reliance and success. It’s consistent presence has been a source of stability in the aftermath of the Campfire. My community has seen real and lasting benefits because of this inspiring nonprofit organization.
From the Ground up Farms fed our community shelter last month. They donated 60+ boxes to feed The Torres Community Shelter in Chico, Ca. In addition to feeding us they fed our other house for families, Aurora North. We appreciate them so much for all their help and donating their food!!
I have been helped so much on more than one occasion by this very giving group of people. They have selflessly helped so many people through some very hard times. We as survivors daily struggle to meet needs. These are a group of many wonderful people. I have been very blessed and I hope they can continue to help others who are struggling to just make sense out of this tragedy. I'm thankful for the people who are willing and ready to reach out to hurting people and do what they can to make things a little easier.
I have much gratitude for all of you. From the Ground Up truly represent the change I resonate with. Our world is in a transitional state and this form of love is felt by many unspokenly. I AM eternally grateful for the ripples of love you bring to this part of the planet and for being on the transittion team for positive change. -Sam Pullenza
From the Ground Up set up gardens in our local neighborhoods and grew food for the community. They are Awesome people
From the Ground Up (Ftgu) is a valuable resource to my community. Offering a safe space for people to be and healthy food to anyone who is in need is just one of the amazing things they offer ! On site they offer a garden and outdoor space for kids to learn and grow; for adults to learn how to grow, harvest and cook fruits and veggies; for neighbors to gather; for like minded folk to meet and work. In addition these folks generously offer classes in healthy cooking/eating to adults and kids. I love FTGU!!
These folks are the salt of the earth. They're truly such a light. Good-hearted wholesome hardworking folks, it's all love from the ground up.
I cannot sing enough praises for From The Ground Up Farms. Jenny, Tami and the gang have done amazing work in our community both feeding stomachs and souls. I get to go to Kentfield Gardens every Sunday night to enjoy the garden and connect with folks I have grown to love, admire and appreciate. This is the meaning of life and without them our community would be a little less bright. Thanks for all you do for us! You are a shining example of being in harmony with plants, animals, insects and people.
My name is teri rubiolo. My husband and i have run I AMS GARDEN in concow for almost 4 years now. We serve and deliver dinners run a free clothes closet food pantry for our concow community. We lost every thing in the fire like many other people but were blessed with the ability and support of many others to come back and continue our service to our community. I have not had the pleasure of meeting jenny yet but she reached out and helped us to help others and im hoping to have a long lasting friendship with this organization. Thank you for your support.
My ten year-old, home-schooled granddaughter and I have attended numerous home-school garden days at Kentfield Garden over the past three years. We have both enjoyed the experience very much. My own personal favorite aspect at Kentfield Gardens is the level of involvement the kids experience. The adults ask for the kids input and ideas, Rather than telling the kids what to do, they are constantly being asked, "Where do you think we should plant this? "What do you think would work here ?" This generates a great deal of pride and a sense of ownership among the children. They work and play, interact with each other and people of different generations, eat healthy snacks provided by the program, and often take home produce they have helped to grow. It is a rich learning experience for the children on many levels. Along with learning gardening skills, they have an opportunity to learn and grow socially as well. They learn to work together co-operatively on projects and have the added bonus of knowing they are helping provide healthy food for members of their community. We are thankful for the opportunities provided by From The Ground Up Farms.
We live near the garden and their hard work is valued by everyone in the community! Open space like this in a city center is rare and greatly appreciated!
This is an amazing part of our community that helps families get involved with nature and each other. I am beyond grateful that my kids have the opportunity to be engaged with such a great bunch of individuals.
From the Ground Up does an amazing job growing for and feeding the Chico community. This group is an inspiration for everyone. Thank you for all that you do.
Perfectly-named, and one of my favorite organizations in Chico. Their mission is so simple, so effective, and so needed in the community right now. You can tell because they have projects everywhere, and they're still growing! Volunteer days are always a blast. Their gardens seem to bring so many people together, and everyone I've ever met who has come in contact with this organization (including myself) has come away happier, healthier, and motivated to do more in the community. I especially like that their projects are designed to be self-sustaining, need-based, and are totally accessible to all members of the community. Thank you FTGU!
Great group of people at From the Ground Up Farms. They are extremely active in our community and it is great to see hard working and caring staff.
We are the landowners for the property this group farms in central Chico. I have worked directly with nonprofits for 20 years and this group has been more dedicated and hard-working than many I have dealt with. We are very happy with the efforts they have taken to connect this garden with the Chico at-risk community and the care and treatment they have dedicated to this piece of land as well as the respect they have shown for the neighborhood in which it sits.
From the Ground Up Farms have worked with us at Chico Community Children's Center for two years. They have installed two gardens, one at each of our centers. As well as weeding and preparing the garden spaces, they have put in irrigation systems. They have helped us to get our families involved in planting and eating healthy produce. We believe that if children and families are involved in planting and harvesting that they will be more likely to try and like fruits and vegetables. As well as gardening, From the Ground Up Farms has put on fun and useful nutrition workshops for our families. It has been such a positive experience to work with these dedicated volunteers for all of the staff, children and families at our centers. Thanks From the Ground Up Farms!
From the Ground Up are a shining example of how a community can come together and solve an issue. The team is passionate, dedicated and resourceful, and they are changing lives through the provision of fresh and healthy food.
This place has helped me grow, from a child into a woman citizen of the world. I cannot expect to change the world without a change and perception in myself and my own life. Acting Locally will raise hope for us to see actual proof around the world. With these community gardens I have watched them cultivate and bring people to purpose and growth within. Suddenly our people are working together, getting together and playing together. I now get to bring my Kids that I teach to a place where they learn the importance of a food made by your own work and efforts. I see people talking of alternative ways to have organic foods in there life without having to spend their whole paycheck on veggies. I see people teaching people listening to each other, helping one another help themselves. Let's get together from the ground up, keep it up !
FTGU Farms is a brilliantly designed non profit. The simple and refined model allows the FTGU team to bring nutritious and healthy food to our most underserved community members fast. A garden can be put up in a matter of hours. Their projects not only feed those in poverty, the FTGU team provides education to the new gardeners/harvesters in preserving food, healthy meals, etc. Five Stars to this incredible non profit!!
