Chico Nonprofits and Charities

The Butte County Local Food Network is working wonders in Butte County! I volunteered with the Garden Box Blitz and was so inspired with the home gardens that quite instantly popped to life in many residential spaces in Chico, Paradise and Oroville. The collaboration and strong sense of community building gave me inspiration. There are many projects the BCLFN is engaged with, including community gardening & school garden support and all of them enhance our community immensely!

Over fifteen years ago one of my students approached me with the idea of starting a nonprofit that would make a difference in the country, Burkina Faso, he came from. I agreed to be on his board and help with getting the organization started. Most college students are focused on their social life and finishing their degree so they can enter the job market. In addition to getting his degree, Alfred's focus was making a difference in the lives of others. So Feeding Nations Through Education (FNTE) was born. <br><br>FNTE almost immediately got projects going in Burkina Faso. Before Alfred graduated college, fundraising had begun and investments in Burkina Faso were being made. The initial projects involved improving farming by providing oxen and plows to families, getting children into school, and providing wells for clean water. Over time micro loans for women were added and a middle school was built (including dorms and a medical center). <br><br>FNTE is an organization where all the funds raised go into projects on the ground. In addition, a majority of the projects have a pay it forward component. Currently, almost 400 families have a pair of oxen to help increase food production for the family and create the opportunity to sell part of their crops. There are over 1700 women owned businesses started through the micro loan program, the majority of them through pay it forward. Seventeen water wells have been drilled providing clean water to over 150,000 people. The school currently has almost 1500 students enrolled. All of this because one person wanted to make a difference. <br><br>FNTE is an organization that is worthy of our support, both money and time. I would encourage both individuals and other organizations to consider joining the FNTE team through your donations, they will make a difference.

my name is Derrick Harper on October 15th 2023 I was victim of a hit and run by a DUI driver at citracado parkway on I-15 California highway crash report states that I was doing 65 I admit I was doing about 80 I was on my Ninja 650 somebody hit me from behind kept on going I hit the asphalt and nobody help nobody I was left for dead in the middle of the interstate luckily I woke up later 4 days later in Palomar medical hospital I was victim of a drunk driver what I do go fund me nobody helps I'm stuck with nothing I lost everything I own I tried crime victims compensation fund they say I don't qualify because I didn't have a job what I'm stuck with nothing in a nursing home luckly I had medical 4 months later I'm here in Stillwater nursing home in El cajon Ca.the accident broke almost all my left ribs one of them got into my spleen I had four blood transfusions and to make matters worse I broke my tibia in so many different places I can't count now I'm left with a titanium rod in my leg I can't walk and still I have nothing all these people getting stuff for free free hotel rooms cuz they got flooded immigrants getting all the stuff for free but me a US citizen born in Newport Beach Hoag hospital one of the nicest hospitals in the world and yet I'm stuck with nothing I can't even get food stamps or general relief they said I don't qualify what gives our government sucks they say they're giving all this stuff to the homeless but for me nothing I didn't have much but I did have some stuff and thanks to a good drunk driver now I'm left with nothing afraid that I'm going to get put out of here with a free ride to the shelter and have a nice day and yet I'm left with nothing thanks to a drunk driver what gives

Our son has gone to this camp at least six times. It is the highlight of our year. My son wears Ability First camp shirts on a weekly basis out in public to help spread the word and encourage others to give it a try. This camp is life changing. One of my favorite things is seeing campers that may be afraid to try something new, the coaches talk them through their fears, then seeing the smiles and excitement as they accomplish something they never thought they could do. It is amazing!! When we arrive in Chico each year for camp we feel like it’s a family reunion. We absolutely love the staff and volunteers. We highly recommend this camp.

Safe Space is a place run by the people for the people.. it was an honor and a privilege to help facilitate a constructive, constantly growing l, community based group that just want to help those who may not know how to ask or are being ran through the hoops of other charities that only allow aid to those who fall into their category or need. Amazing group helping amazing people. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My husband and I were hiking 300 miles away from Butte Creek in the redwoods near the Smith River in far northwestern California with a hiking group that was just getting established. Making conversation with one of our fellow hikers we mentioned we were from Chico. This hiker-300 miles from Butte Creek- knew about the extraordinary work that Friends of Butte Creek has been doing to preserve and improve the health of the creek, particularly for the native salmon. It is a small but significant organization-quite mighty and dedicated to its mission.

When my husband decided it was time to just enjoy life and make memories for us. BHHH was Amazing. From the intake nurse who explained everything to him and answered all of his and our friends questions to the nurse assigned to our home visits. My husband felt so comfortable and I felt so supported and understood. Thank you so much.

This nonprofit plays an active and significant role in the community to support bike advocacy, engagement, and education. I'm extremely honored to help support this nonprofit as both a community member and board member.

I love this organization- I get so much joy knowing the the homeless animals of our neighborhood are being cared for- I am thankful for all the volunteers especially kimmi she is just a blessing the way she jumped out in front of that car to save that three legged dog- it’s amazing to see the love these people share for animals

As a board member at the Chico Peace and Justice Center, I can testify that grassroots activism and community outreach in Chico thrives at the CPJC. We are currently partnering with with California State University, Chico to expand our student volunteer base. Student volunteers are encouraged to follow their passions, use data driven research, and publish their findings in our weekly newsletter. We would also like to attract and retain young and local talent by offering small stipends for services rendered.

These people take ALL the money that their clients have to enslave them with fear. They are kept satisfied with television. These poor people don't get to experience visitors and their friends and family are asked to leave by the clients themselves for they fear that their security and housing will be taken from them. The best organization for young professionals in Butte County who are looking to plug in, give back, meet new people, make friends, and take on responsibility. Like Rotary for the under 40 crowd - lively, active, engaging, and always willing to lend some muscle and volunteer for community events while hosting its own killer fundraisers - like the Margarita Mix-Off.

This is a great non-profit organization that provides support and resources to those with Brain Injury, as well as to their families and caregivers affected by hardships and challenges faced. They can also provide insight to those just wanting to learn more about Brain Injury and how it impacts others. They offer positive hope, as well as help promote and encourage learning skills and utilizing tools to help cope with the difficulties of adapting to life's changes. They also provide regular workshops for the community. <br> <br>

I worked for Victor for over 26 years in the Stockton program. I was proud to say that I worked for Mr. David Favor and was part of wonderfully talented group of staff who loved their jobs, and especially cared about our special clients. I am saddened to say that this is no longer true since the passing v of Mr. Favor. It appears that the almighty $ has taken precedence over the care of our clients and support of staff. If Victor does not change immediately in all of it's programs it will soon be a programm of the past. I am deeply saddened that management has allowed this to happen.
