We wanted a great marriage but didn't know how to change the things that were keeping us from that goal. That's where the Fortified Marriages Ministry came in the picture. We met with Chris and Carmen to discuss issues and we worked through Chris' book, "Fortified Marriages" to learn the tools necessary to turn our marriage into a "fortified" marriage. Chris and Carmen made themselves available between session to answer calls and give encouragement. Chris and Carmen truly have a heart for couples struggling to make their marriages more pleasing to God. We highly recommend this ministry to anyone who desires to have a great marriage.
By way of introduction, we are Junius and Cynthia Gailor of Liberia, West Africa. We are Founders and Directors of the One Flesh Family Ministries Int’l, a ministry established in 2010 to minister to families primarily in Liberia and the USA.
Since the inception of the OFFMI ministry, the Fortified Marriages Ministry has been the most supportive organization to assist us in the realization of our dreams and goals to minister to families, especially in Liberia, a country where families were traumatized by 14 years of civil war. Chris and Carmen Garner of Fortified Marriages Ministry have consistently partnered with us over the years and have selflessly supported us from their meager resources in the following areas: literature; audio/video materials; securing AACC scholarships for us to attend AACC International Conferences for the past five years; travelling to Liberia more than once (at their own expense) to participate in Couples and Family conferences convened by OFFMI Ministry.
Chris and Carmen have certainly been a blessing to our Ministry; and we are convinced that their Ministry is the vessel God has chosen to assure us that He wants us to continue ministering to couples and families in Liberia.
Chris and Carmen are totally dedicated to growing healthy marriages. We have participated in, and facilitated, Fortified Marriage classes for many years. The couples that we have taken the class with, and those that have gone through with us, have been so richly blessed by the book's content and activities. The content of the book is comprehensive and in-depth. It really provides for healthy exploration of what God expects from us in a Christian marriage. Fortified Marriages, has been a great help to my wife, Judy and I, we met the Garners at church, and they invited us to attend a Fortified Marriage class in their home. Tom & I had been married for 38 years, but it was really tough being together. He was too friendly with the women & I was always suspicious. A lot of our marriage was in silence. They say not to fight at night.....we always fought at night. We were separated for quite a while, because of Facebook and had just gotten back together, but it was not working. So I asked a friend if she knew someone I could go to for counseling. I was DESPERATE and Tom was not interested in going. Our friend had a "Fortified Marriage" business card & gave me their number. I got Carmen on the phone & she was AWESOME! She was honest, but sweet. She was understanding, but firm. She was my life line.....no exaggeration!!! We prayed and Tom agreed to go with me to counseling! It changed our marriage COMPLETELY!!! I would say the most important thing we learned was boundaries! It was hard to understand, at first, but our marriage was a testimony to no boundaries. When we later did the group counseling with 6 other couples...it really helped a lot! We weren't the only couple struggling. Chris and Carmen were so honest about their own marriage. There's a way to victory by having God and Chris & Carmen helping! We recommend Fortified Marriage all the time! Tom & I have been married 42 years now! Praise God!!!
Fortified Marriages Ministry just concluded a six month program of weekly studies on Friday nights that made a difference in our lives. We enjoyed the opportunity to be challenged to grow along with several other couples who also wanted to enrich their marriages. We have discovered that when we are content to just go along with whatever life hands us and are never challenged to grow we tend to settle for average living. My wife & I have been blessed by participating in this class and would do it all over again given the opportunity.
My husband & I attended a Fortified Marriage Conference with Chris & Carmen. I was mortified as my husband & I did a role play & my husband told me he didn’t trust me in the area of money. We were able to work through this & today I help him pay the bills. This is huge! We learned about each other’s personalities & that helps us in many areas mainly not taking things personally. We are grateful for their transparency. It is helpful to know that they were struggling & that by surrendering themselves they can focus on the other person. That is being selfLESS.
