I have worked with Doctor Moses on many missions and am very proud of the work we do! We change lives of children and the families around them. As a nurse, in a non acute profession, this has been a way to use my skills and partipcate in a mission that is very satisfying.
AS a registered nurse, I have participated many times in the Tecate, Mexico clinic, I have made several trips on the Ukraine trips, and was on the India trip in December 2010. We have come to these clinics with all of our supplies - 10-20 luggage bags - to provide a safe surgical operating room environment, a safe recovery post-op, and to provide the needed pre/post instructions. All of our supplies are brought with us to these clinics by the medical/nursing team as free donations from our own professional contacts here in the USA. Without these surgeries, many of these children would never be employed, gain an education, have the ability to speak clearly, and for the girls, to have any life at all short of death at an early early age.
WE are able to provide hope for a rpoductive live for these children's future. We would not be able to do this without the support of the free medical supplies we receive. We are very thankful.
I have participated in two missions with SIF and been rewarded with life enriching experiences. The missions have been well run, with efficient use of resources and volunteer time. Monies donated to SIF go directly toward patient care. I have been on multiple trips with several different mission groups and found SIF missions to be particularly focused and efficient.
One of the aspects that I have found particularly rewarding is that there is generally follow-up with previous patients and ongoing evaluation of patients, when feasible.
I've volunteered with many surgical mission groups, and this is by far my favorite. It is well organized, has a focused mission, and donations go directly to patient care. They do as much as possible with every donation - nothing is wasted. Most importantly - they don't just fly in, create chaos, and leave the locals to "figure things out" (like many well-meaning groups do), but rather spend a lot of time with the locals so they can take care of their own over time.
Dr Moses and his team have built a wonderful organization. I have been fortunate to participate in some of their projects. Their missions are multiple and worldwide but have one thing in common--an aim to provide selfless service to humanity.
Dr. Moses and his team of carefully selected volunteers travel thousands of miles various times a year to perform free consultations and charitable surgical treatment to hundreds of patients. They also donate medical and surgical instrumentation to needy hospitals and clinics. What is most admirable is the professional manner in which they conduct their daily activities. This organization commands the utmost respect from the local population at every location they visit and have endless appreciation from the parents and families of the thousands of children they have and continue to heal.
