LEAGUE FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

I have been volunteering with the League for Animal Welfare for six years in a variety of ways including doing events, dog walking, fostering, stuffing envelopes, presenting educational talks, and working the desk preopen hours. But my favorite activity by far is kennel sitting. Most weeks I go to the shelter five days and sit in a kennel with dogs who are shy, frightened, or overwhelmed by their situation. For an hour I will sit, talk, pet, play calming music or read aloud to the dog. Often I will sit with the same animal for days in a row to give them continuity in an environment that is confusing for them. I've adopted 2 dogs from here and fostered six that found good homes. It is a first class nonprofit in all they do and I feel lucky to be able to volunteer there.

I love volunteering at the League For Animal Welfare. Volunteers can come an go, no set schedule for enriching the cats and dogs lives. There are so many other ways to help also. Off site events are fun, transporting cats and dogs and let's not forget the awesome people who foster the pets, including bottle feeding really young ones. All of these are greatly appreciated by the staff, they never fail to thank you! And I've made new friends who love the cats and dogs as much as I do.

my wife and I needed a dog for emotional support after we experienced some unfortunate events. The staff at LFAW were kind and helpful. We went home with a beagle and she is great! We were so happy with the addition to our family. We had a great experience with the League and we recommend them to other people who want to adopt a pet.

My husband and I adopted our 'first' dog from The League for Animal Welfare about 6 years ago and I've been a volunteer ever since! I'm allergic to cats, so my experience is strictly with dogs. I grew up with dogs and used to volunteer at a local shelter in my hometown (northeast Ohio). When I volunteered there, I was only permitted to clean the cages. The staff were the only people who handled the animals there. If I am volunteering at an animal shelter, I would at least like a little time to walk a dog, play with a dog, pet a dog, etc.. That being said, I was a little hesitant to sign up to volunteer at another animal shelter. The League for Animal Welfare is completely different from that shelter, mentioned in the previous sentence. The League for Animal Welfare is a great place to volunteer! There are many ways to volunteer, ranging from visiting the shelter to spend time with the dogs (walking them, playing with them, working with them to curb behavioral issues, reading to them, etc.), to volunteering at events with adoptable animals, and community outreach events. There are many volunteer training programs, to ensure the volunteers are up to speed on all things shelter-related, animal-related, etc.. The volunteer base has grown exponentially in the past few years, which makes me very happy. Everyone (volunteers and staff) is very kind and helpful when I volunteer. If I take a month off, because life is busy, and I come back and something has changed, or something has moved, I can ask virtually anyone and I can get an answer to my question, or get pointed in the right direction. Most of all, when I volunteer, I feel like I am helping to make a difference. The League for Animal Welfare does so many great things for animals in the community and I cannot say enough good things about this organization. They are an organization that I am proud to be a part of.

I volunteer at LFAW mostly by walking the dogs on weekends. They do a tremendous job of rehabilitating dogs/cats and getting adopted. The kennels are so clean you could eat off the floor. All the volunteers and staff are very caring and focused on ways to help more animals in this no kill shelter. THey also sponder spray and nuetering services. There are many opportnuties to help and many events to attend all geared at getting the League and the league's animals exposed to potential adopters, donors or volunteers. I feel blessed that I found this place.

We adopted our kitten from the League. We choose the League because we wanted to support a local, no-kill animal shelter. The adoption process was great. They screen families/adopters through interviews and questionnaires. While I knew I'd be a good, kitten mama, I was happy they were not willing to send animals home with just anyone.

All the of the staff we encountered during our first and suture visits, was exceptionally friendly. They even remembered our kitten a year later, which showed me the quality care they took of our kitten and the relationship they had with him prior to his adoption. The facilities have always been clean and had many pet items (toys, beds, climbers, etc) available.

I also loved that in order to adopt an animal, you must give a deposit and once you have your animal spayed or neutered, you receive it back. Not only are they working towards finding good homes for animals, they are also lessing the amount of animals to be born in the future and in need of a home.
