Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley

I love the Restore. It’s an amazing service to provide secondhand furniture, drive donations, and keep materials out of landfills. These people are amazing and do great work!

I have been on Habitat's board for 4 years and feel fortunate to be part of such an exceptional organization that does so much good in the community. Habitat revitalizes neighborhoods by lowering the cost of home ownership, making improvements in existing homes and providing education and support to prospective home owners and the community.

I'm proud to be part of such a wonderful organization!

It has been one of my greatest accomplishments to be involved in this incredible organization for almost 15 years. During this time, I have helped to rebuild many houses and have seen the joy that we have been able to bring to hard working families who never thought they would be able to own their own home.
But even more amazing is the difference this organization has made in rebuilding neighborhoods. The first house I worked on was in a depressed area with many foreclosed houses. Today, that same area is revitalized with over 30 houses rebuilt, a community garden, refurbished park and an active neighboorhood group.
I've seen the home rennovation model work but it requires dedicated, passionate people to lead the way and Habitat Huron Valley has them throughout the organization.

I started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley back in 1997, when the affiliate did their first Blitz Build. I was very impressed with how the build was well-organized. And indeed our house was mostly complete in a week. Millard Fuller came and spoke at the dedications. I recall how he was impressed that so many different congregations / denominations had come together to make a difference for the homeowner and the community. I continued to volunteer for many years, and eventually was on the Board of Directors. I would not have supported this affiliate for so many years if it weren’t for the very strong and capable staff led by Executive Director Sarah Stanton. The organization back in 1997 was just a lot of volunteers some part-time staff and we built a few houses a year. Fast forward to now when a dozen or more houses are sold to new homeowners each year, there is a vibrant ReStore, and a deeper commitment to engaging communities as a whole (not just the specific houses built). I whole-heartedly recommend getting involved with this affiliate if you are looking for a rewarding and satisfactory volunteer experience.

Huron Valley Habitat for Humanity continues to expand it’s offerings to communities including , among other things, financial education, home repairs for vets and seniors, neighborhood development, as well as opportunities for people with lower incomes to buy a home. With the help of countless teams of volunteers and generous donors, HVH4H supports and connects communities with the families who live there in ways that makes positive change happen that will extend far into the future.

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (HHVH) is a very engaged non-profit organization in South East Michigan. HHVH has a wide range of activities all designed to improve the living conditions for our community members. HHVH has a long history of meeting community member's housing needs as well as a robust home improvement program to assure that individuals and families can continue to live in their homes.

Washtenaw County is the most expensive housing market in the state of Michigan. Being home to two large universities means rents will always be on the rise. For low to moderate income households, not qualifying for a traditional mortgage means ever-increasing housing costs. Habitat provides a unique opportunity in our area for families to achieve the stability and security that comes with owning a home. Habitat's product is a high quality, move-in ready home, sold at appraised value, with an affordable mortgage. An investment in Habitat's mission is an investment in the long-term strength of Washtenaw County.

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley has made a tremendously positive impact on thousands of people over the last 30 years. While excelling in it's core mission of affordable home ownership it has also focused on sustaining successful neighborhoods through home improvement and community development. Every day they make a difference in peoples lives that is felt for many years.

I have been a part of Habitat for over 5 years and have been proud to be a board member of an organization that makes such a significant impact in Washtenaw County. Habitat provides an opportunity for people to buy an affordable home. These individuals and families work very hard for their homes but have Habitat to help them with so many aspects of the process especially financing.

In addition to our Home Ownership Program, we help people improve their homes, help with financial education and we have a Restore where people can shop for affordable items.

Since my initial introduction to Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley I have been amazed by the incredible number of people they help and programs they have. Their reach extends beyond homeowners to strengthening the entire community. The organization grows and adapts to figure out solutions that will serve more people and help more communities throughout Washtenaw County.

I had the pleasure of attending Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley’s Bid to Build fundraiser on May 4, 2019, where we celebrated our 30th anniversary. I was particularly moved to learn about Stephanie and Maurice Homes and their wonderful family. The Homes family were the beneficiaries of the first home our organization ever built! It was joyous celebrating with Stephanie and Maurice and all the success they’ve enjoyed over the past 30 years. I’m so proud of our organization and the hundreds of families, like the Homes family, that we’ve served over the years. I’m looking forward to our next 30 years of our mission work.

I believe that this organization is beyond all expectations with providing great service to our community but doing it in a way that helps everyone involved. As a past board member I can say without reservation that staff from the executive director down are intelligent, hard working, and totally focused on what needs to be done to provide more housing services and homes for those that need some assistance. I was on the board six years now and were building six homes per year at that time. They now are providing 18 homes a year, offering no interest loans for repairs on hundreds of other homeowners that cannot afford these repairs normally, and giving away hundreds of refrigerators as well. The staff are consistently seeking ways to help others that just need that little boost. The Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley is expertly run financially that will insure this continued wonderful contribution to our community for many, many years. Everyone should help out where and when they can.

Habitat allows you to spend your Saturday making a difference in the lives of a family. By helping provide affordable home ownership opportunities Habitat is making a difference today as well as for future generations. Everyone deserves a simple, decent, affordable place to live.
