Operation Write Home allows me to show my gratitude to our heroes who are serving me and our country. Our military are sacrificing their time and their lives to protect our freedom. Their families are also sacrificing having them at home. The cards I make for Operation Write Home help our heroes stay in touch with family and friends.

I am a volunteer for Operation Write Home and it is very rewarding. The cards that are made from volunteers around the USA are sent to our troops so they can write a note and send them home. Any Hero mail is also sent to the troops and distributed to those who don't receive a lot of mail while they are deployed. This is a great organization and I wish I could do more!

Volunteering for OWH has been very rewarding. I not only get to support and encourage our military but I am learning so much about making the perfect card. Having a son and daughter-in-law serving our country it is important to me to support them and all of our military. When they were deployed I only received 2 cards, not from OWH, and they meant the world to me. I am so glad I can help to encourage our troops to write loved ones at home. It is an honor to help them to connect to loved ones. Thank you OWH for the opportunity to be a part of your great organization!

Operation Write Home, founded by Sandy Allnock, received it's non-profit status with the IRS on September 12, 2009. I started making and sending blank greeting cards to OWH to send to deployed service members to use to write home to their loved ones. Also wrote AnyHero letters of support and encouragement to boost morale. I helped start a card making group in my church and invited all crafters and card makers to write AnyHero letters and make cards. OWH has sent more than 2 million cards overseas. The notes of appreciation sent back keeps me motivated to make more cards and write more letters. A huge percent of the donated funds is used for shipping boxes and all that it takes to get them filled and packed. In the almost three years I have been a volunteer through my church, more than 20,000 cards have been sent to OWH. All the card makers are so special. Each one understands the mission of OWH: to send blank, handmade greeting cards and AnyHero letters of appreciation to our deployed heroes. Envelopes are included so our heroes can write to their special people and send them home. We feel we are part of wonderful outreach, even though we are on the homefront.

I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be consideratie and to be responsible. When I make cards for Operation Wrtie Home and write AnyHero notes, I am making something our deployed heroes want to send home. Cards I make are appreciated by those on the homefront you receive them. The AnyHero notes tell a deployed hero how much I admire their decision to serve our country and how I am praying for their safety. I also make card kits for card making meetings where card makers gather to fill boxes with handmade greeting cards. In this way, I know I am doing something that matters. My goal is to make a diffence in this world while I am here.

"What can I do?"... it's a question asked often. We *want* to help our Heroes, but we're not sure how.
Operation Write Home has found the answer to this question: CARDS!
You can make cards, for our Heroes to write home in- a way for them to keep in contact with loved ones back home. You can write letters, to let our Heroes know we are thinking of them. You can donate money towards shipping the over TWO MILLION CARDS sent by OWH. You can get the kids involved, having them draw pictures for deployed Heroes.
This is a great way to show some love for the deployed and their families. A wonderful way to give thanks for those who give so much.
Their website has a lot of great FREE tutorials, to give you ideas... most important, their site has messages of thanks from the brave men and women who receive these cards. The best inspiration is hearing from those you have helped.

Operation Write Home is a great way to support our troops, by making and donating cards, by donating money to defray shipping costs, and by sending any hero cards to soldiers so they know we are thinking about them and we appreciate their sacrifice.

It is also a chance to spend time with your crafty friends, getting together to make cards!

While I do not have any family members serving in the military I felt strongly about giving back to those who serve us . Card making is my newest creative outlet and having a very small family so I am able to participate in my new hobby and give back at the same time. I can only imagine how it must feel to receive one of the cards from a loved one who is so very far from home.

When found myself able to retire at a relatively early age, SO many people asked "What will you do....how will you keep from going crazy?" For me the answer was simple - first, spend more time with family and friends and then find a way to give back and express my gratitude for the blessings I've received in my life.

For me, Operation Write Home (OWH) is the perfect fit. It allows me the opportunity to do something meaningful for those who offer themselves and their talents to protect the life and freedoms that I and many others have so often taken for granted here in the great U.S.A. I love many types of hand crafting but, several years before I retired, card making became my craft of choice. One day, while looking for card ideas I came across the OWH website and knew this was an organization with which I wanted to be associated. After describing the organization's efforts and my intent to participate, several of my family and friends also wanted to give back to our service men and women. Now, twice a month, I host an OWH day where any who are available are welcome to come over and we spend the day making cards for those serving overseas in the military to use to keep in touch with their family and loved ones back home.

And so, once again I have been blessed! This one effort has helped me to achieve, in part, both of my retirement goals.

I started using Copic Markers and was trying to find a way to practice and then wondered what to do with them when they are finished. I found this wonderful organization and was honored to be part of it. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and he was glad to help me support the organization. So he is the donor and I am the card maker.

One of the best parts about being part of this organization is that you get to hear what your contributions are doing. You hear weekly about how somone used the cards, honored a family member, kept in touch with family or some heart warming story to keep you motivated to keep making cards and sending much needed postage money.

I found Operation Write Home while looking for a way to share my card making talent. This organization is top-rate. I have made many new card making e-friends. The support is incredible. Expert and accomplished crafts people share their ideas, expertise and resources.

Operation Write Home is a great way to give back to those who are risking their lives for our Country on a daily basis. Encouraging and providing a way for our deployed service personnel to connect to their families in a such beautiful and heartfelt way (a hand written card), is one of the main goals. I am so happy to be a part of such a wonderful organization.

I love the look of my friend's handmade cards, but I am a terrible letter-writer, so I have not really been able to join in their hobby until I found this organization. Now I can make cards and know that they have an important purpose - providing quality cards for our servicemen and -women to use to write home on. I know several people serving overseas, and this is a way for me to do something for them to show my appreciation for their service and sacrifice for me and my country. Sandy does such a wonderful job with her website, Facebook page, and youTube tutorials, that this is something anyone can get involved in. I also love that she encourages us to write AnyHero cards TO the troops, which allows my children and their friends to get involved too.

I was looking for a place to serve our military and yet one that fit with our busy schedule as a homeschool family. Operation Write Home fit the bill perfectly. They provide help for their donors (guidelines, tutorials, etc.) and they are transparent in all they do, from mailing packages, sharing encouragement/feedback and their financial end. It has been a blessing to share in bringing joy to military and their families through Operation Write Home. I like it so much that my craft group's service project for 2013 will be to get Any Hero cards created and sent in, as many as we can.

I started making greeting cards to send to shut-ins who are members of my church, but soon had more cards than I could ever use. Making scrapbook pages didn't interest me, so when I found out about Operation Write Home, I felt it would be a perfect fit. So many recipients of my cards have said they love getting hand crafted cards with hand written messages, and I think family members of overseas military personnel must feel the same. Making cards that our heroes can use when they write home to family and friends gives me a sense of sharing in a very small way in the efforts of our military around the world. I hope it assures our heroes that our country is behind them as they sacrifice home and family life as they serve. Doing something I love for someone else is very gratifying -- I am receiving at the same time I'm giving.

I "enlisted" with the Operation Write Home team in Feb 2012. My son had recently joined the National Guard so I knew how precious those cards and letters that I received while he was away were. I didn't hesitate to join forces with Sandy Allnock, Kris Allan and the thousands of volunteer card makers. OWH strives for the very best by offering tons of tutorials, videos, challenges and daily motivation free of charge!! I look forward to the live webcast on YouTube every Thursday which allows me to chat with fellow OWHers and learn what's going on this week in the OWH world. Sandy is the executive director and never fails to bring us a giggle or 2 during the webcast. Sandy is very interactive (is that the right word?) meaning that she reads all of the comments and requests our input on certain things that help OWH grow. It's fun, informative and very rewarding knowing that we help bring smiles to our Heroes' family and friends back home.

I always loved to make cards ever since my daughter introduced me to my first rubber stamp. And, after retirement I went into the card making full force, but I found that I made a lot more than I sent out. So when I read about Operation Write Home I knew I found a place to send my cards for a great cause. I remembered how much a letter meant to me when my soldier sent me his when he was in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. So I know the family and friends who get those cards with messages from their soldiers will be so blessed as well. This is an organization that does a wonderful thing to make the deployment of our soldiers and their families less tough.

This is a fabulous organization and giving community. The overhead is unspeakably low to non-existent. Everyone, including international volunteers, spread the honor, gratefulness, and appreciate our service personnel. Further, the connections made to our service personnel last forever through the handmade cards OWH volunteers made for them to write home to love ones, family and friends. These cards remain as a piece of the service person and a memory that will last forever in their lives. All donations made to this nonprofit go to shipping boxes to our military installations, regardless of branch in the military. Without contributions of cards or monetary contributions, we would not be able to fulfill the volume of requests that have been made by our service personnel,

To be able to make cards for deployed military personnel to send home to family and friends is my way of showing respect for and saying thank you to our Heroes who sacrifice for and serve this great nation. I cannot tell you how heartwarming it is to receive a letter from the Heroes themselves telling us how glad they are that we provide these cards and how beautifully done they are. Or to receive a note from someone who received one of these cards from their deployed loved one and tell us how much it means to them to have "something" to hold with his or her own handwriting inside. It is such a small thing for me to do, but a very large priceless and important thing to them. One thought that always stays with me is one of our cards may be the last thing a loved one might receive...and that is why OWH is so important.

I used to make scrapbooks but that slowed way down when the kids and grand kids moved out of state, and most pictures are now stored digitally and easier to maintain. So I started making greeting cards, I found myself overwhelmed with them and wanted to do something worthwhile with my card making. I found "Operation Write Home" through Hero Arts on line, checked it out and was thrilled to find an organization that sent blank hand made greeting cards to our Hero's in service for them to send home to their loved ones. I cannot think of a more fulfilling way to use the talent God gave me. I have learned so many good tips on making better quality cards and have made many new friends along the way.
The art of the handwritten note is a dying one, but for these soldiers it is a way to send something back home to their loved ones that can be displayed and read over and over again. Like our president Sandy Allnock says, "Your card could be the last thing a Hero's family receives" What an honor and privilege to be a part of this organization

making cards and writing letters to deployed servicemen/servicewomen is a terrific thing in and of itself, but the incredible volunteer support and guidance with OWH tutorials, vlog, and crafting network makes it even more attractive an organisation.

plus, look at their financials. they have little/no overhead. they put their funds into direct community benefit. they are ALL volunteers. the facts lead to the conclusion that this organisation is an excellent investment beyond the philanthropic aspects of it's mission.

i originally started making these greeting cards to help me cope with hubby’s calling, but it turns out that this organisation opened a whole new world to me. not only do i feel better about him going into harm’s way every day, but i’ve added one more thing that brings some fun and adventure into my life. . . and i’m so NOT a crafty-type . . .

OWH has given me the opportunity to give back year round! I had to retire 6 months ago to care for my husband and was finding myself at loose ends. My daughter got me into card making even though I told her I hated to make cards unless I had a reason for one. I now have a reason for each and every card I make!!!! I spend hours working on the cards and find so much joy in it! Not only does it give me something to keep my busy, it gives me a purpose and to be able to share that with our heros and their families means so much! Our troops give up big blocks of their lives away from their families. OWH cards gives them a chance to keep in touch with more than a plan piece of paper! Her weekly live OWHtv presentation keeps all of us informed and inspired. What I particularly appreciate is Sandy's emphasis on QUALITY cards. Rather than throwing together 20 cards at one sitting, she encourages us to take our time, use quality products, and make beautiful, unique, special cards for our brave troops throughout the world. They deserve our best effort.

I absolutely LOVE Operation Write Home (OWH). It is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had. Volunteer cardmakers create blank masterpiece cards to send out to the troops, who send them back with notes to their loved ones and friends. I "met" the president of OWH online on a troop support site and she invited me in. I have had the opportunity to learn and grow as a cardmaker, in part by seeing the lovely contributions of other cardmakers, and in part through the tutorials that OWH has made to assist us. Reading the messages sent to OWH from the families who receive these cards from their loved ones is the BEST, especially the impact it has on their children and spouses!! And there is no prssure. You can create one card or a hundred, because we want each one to be truly worthy of our heroes. Folks who don't have that creative mindset can easily participate as well by sending donations for the postage to ship cards and by writing "hero letters" to the troops thanking them for their service (hero letters are enclosed in every box of cards that are shipped)! This organization creates a WIN (cardmakers. letter writers and donors), WIN (deployed service members who so want to stay in touch with folks back home), WIN (the familiy and friends receiving these cards) atmosphere and it doesn't get any better than that!

I like to make cards but my family only has so many birthdays, right. Once I heard about Operation Write Home, I knew it was a perfect match. My skills as a card maker have improved so much with all the help OWH provides through blogs, tutorials, videos and newsletters. The president is so fun and enthusiastic, you can't help but want to get involved. I could go on and on but it stops me from making cards!

I have been a volunteer cardmaker for Operation Write Home since June 2010. I first read about it in a national magazine and immediately visited the website, where I was impressed with the enthusiastic, informative and welcoming spirit of OWH! Dedicated leader Sandy Allnock has guided and grown this nonprofit into a national team and community of cardmakers. I am so proud to do my own small part for this fantastic organization, which enables our troops to stay in personal touch with their loved ones through beautifully crafted cards. And I mean BEAUTIFUL. I had no idea the extent of the world of cardmaking and the beauty that is created. It has changed my life and given me a new purpose and creative outlet to support this most worthy cause, where every single lovingly crafted card makes a difference!

It is a lively, informative and welcoming community, led by the dedicated and talented Sandy Allnock. I said to myself, "I could do this!" That was in June 2010 and I've been making cards for OWH ever since. I am always learning new creative techniques and amazed by the talented and hardworking volunteers across America! I started a new hobby this past summer of making cards. (I am a school teacher, so I had the summer off. ) Before long, I was making more cards than one person could possibly use. I learned of Operation Write Home from a card making blog and thought it was the perfect solution. I can make cards and they would be put to could use. Operation Write Home allows me to feed my card addiction and make me feel good in the process. And even though the amount of cards I send is minimal I always enjoy the way OWH shares the sentiments of gratitude from both the soldiers and the persons receiving the handmade cards. OWH is a win-win.

Operation Write Home changes the lives of our Service Men and Women in combat. The lovingly made, beautifully crafted greeting cards made by volunteers come into the hands of the soldiers who want something special to write home on. The "Heros" still want to wish their Mothers a Happy Mother's Day and their children a Happy Birthday. They deserve a special card that will brighten the day of their loved ones. They normally have little to nothing to select in the way of greeting cards to send home so Operation Write Home is a Godsend. Their families are so grateful for the beautiful cards that are hand selected by their "Heros". The organization continually strives to improve the quality of the greeting cards sent by the volunteers by way of instructional videos and weekly vlogs. Volunteers also send letters of gratitude to ensure our Heros know they are thought of and appreciated. Volunteers send money for shipping. Volunteers "triage" cards that fall apart before reaching their destination and lovingly put them together again. Operation Write Home receives fund for envelopes to use on cards of volunteers who cannot afford to supply envelopes with their donated cards. Volunteers match up cards with envelopes when needed before shipping them overseas. The President of the company, Sandy Allnock is generous, committed and dedicated to providing the highest quality greeting cards for our Heros. Our Heros only deserve the best.

I've been making cards for Operation Write Home since 2009. We make cards for troops to write in to send home to their friends and loved ones. We also send "Hero Mail," cards, letters and kids' pictures thanking our Heroes for their service. These letters are given to troops who don't get much mail, or who are going through a particularly bad time. The driving force behind this organization is a group of dedicated people lead by Sandy Allnock. The tone is set by this group - there's no politics, no negativity - it's all about helping our troops. They work tirelessly, shipping, creating samples, tutorials, sketches, post to Facebook and Twitter, film videos, weekly tv shows, blogs and vlogs. In most organizations, it would take a small army to accomplish so much.

I started making cards for Operation Write Home in 2009. It quickly became a passion for me. We send hand-made cards to deployed troops for all branches of the service. The organization is incredibly motivating. I learned everything I needed to know from the website. There's a Facebook page where they post notes from troops and family members. There are tutorials for new and experienced cardmakers alike. We also send "hero mail," which are cards, coloring pages, notes, etc. written to any hero. They are given to troops who do note receive much mail, or who are going through a bad time. I've been able to teach card classes at work since August of 2010, and have many happy supporters there.

Through Operation Write Home I can touch the lives of our heroes and their families in a meaningful way. I have a niece whose husband has been deployed multiple times and that is so hard on her and their three children. One card that I make will encourage a hero to write to his loved ones and the homemade card may be kept as a reminder of that connection. This is also a reliable organization that is upfront with what they do and there is constant connection with the volunteers through Facebook, blogs, and OWHtv.

I'm deployed to Afghanistan and continue to see the impact made by Operation Write Home. We don't have a lot of time to write, so these cards with a message on the front or images that convey feelings to family, with just enough space inside to remind a wife, kids, mother/father, or others that we're doing okay and a quick update is perfect. I try to use one at least every two weeks to let my wife and baby girl know that they're on my mind all the time and are the motivation for sucess, so I can be reunited with them after a year spent in this war zone. I have been making cards for this organization for just a few months but it is such a wonderful feeling to be able to help our service men and women who are deployed overseas. They don't always have access to cards to write home to loved ones and this organization provides beautiful cards to those service people. Their loved ones get cards that they will cherish all their lives. My mother, who is now 95, saved all the letters that my dad had written to her while serving in WW II and what a wonderful thing that is for her children and grandchildren. This is the same that these families will have for years to come, the wonderful aspect of the written word in your loved ones handwriting. I'm proud to be able to help.

Just thinking of the loved ones getting these cards from their son or daughter, Mom or Dad, or special others makes me want to try and make the best cards I can. I am new at this but will improve. I have been making cards for Operation Write Home for about a year. It is an honor to create home-made for our deployed troops to send to loved ones back here in the states. It is a small way to pay forward for the blessings bestowed upon our own family members who served in World War II and Vietnam. And, a recent thank you e-mail from a soldier who had just sent one of my cards to his wife brought tears to my eyes.

The Operation Write Home Web site has all the inspiration and information a card-maker could need -- everything from card-making guidelines and shipping tips; to challenges, tutorials, and blog hops filled with card-making ideas; to inspirational messages from troops serving overseas.

However, what most impresses me about the organization is the passion and dedication of its founder and president, Sandy Allnock. She is amazing -- simply amazing! There have been so many times that I have e-mailed Sandy with a question or request for information. And, I am always astounded at how quickly I receive a reply -- often times within minutes. And, to think that she is that responsive when I am just one of hundreds, if not thousands, of card makers.... As I said, she is just amazing. An amazing woman and an amazing organization.

Sandy Allnock, the President of OWH, is a tireless, generous soul who gives 150% of herself to this organization. She is an inspiration to all of us. She encourages and coaches us to make better quality cards, to use our best supplies, and prompts us to use new techniques, so that our cards stand out. Operation Write Home collects handmade cards from volunteer crafters and sends them to troops serving overseas. They in turn use them to keep in touch with family and friends back home. I'm one of the volunteer cardmakers. I've been working with OWH almost from the beginning. They are a joy to work with! They promptly acknowledge receipt of your cards. You are never left wondering if they got them. They have a very professional series of websites offering lots of information. Some of it aimed at the cardmakers to help them create better cards and give them ideas. Then there are areas to post the thanks from the Heroes that get the boxes, and another area to post thanks from those who receive the cards from their loved one serving overseas. This area can require a large box of tissues when reading!
It is truly a wonderful organization and I support it wholeheartedly. I love to create and think of those who will be getting my creations. Yes, lots of the troops have access to email and even Skype. But you don't print out an email and save it in a box under your bed. A handwritten beautiful card is so much more personal!
Also ALL those involved with OWH, from the President, to the shippers, to all the crafters are volunteers. No one is paid, so all the money collected goes to those it's intended to support. In short OWH ROCKS!

I saw an article about OWH in a crafting magazine and was immediately drawn to it in a way that I can't imagine being without it for my outlet. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the men and women who are sacrificing for us, and I strive to make a card a day. I have a relative who has recently joined the service, and it makes it all mean even more.

Sending off a care package for a deployed relative was a way to support our troops but it was just to one or two people at a time and just for a limited time. Making cards for OWH not only satisfies my papercrafting interests but also a benfefits a lot of people in a lot of places on an on-going basis or the last two years. OWH is terrific for acknowledging your contribution immediately plus we get wonderful feedback from the heroes. OWH's site offers help and inspiration for making the best possible cards for our heroes with galleries, vlogs, photo tutorials as well as OWH TV. Their Facebook pages also gives you hundreds of "friends" who provide tips and examples of great cards on a daily basis.

I've been making cards for about 9 years and have always made way too many to give to family and friends. So I had boxes of cards stashed away in my house just waiting. While looking around online for card ideas, I came across Operation Write Home's website. I have now been making cards for OWH for the past year and absolutely love this organization. The volunteers are completely dedicated to bringing our heroes a closeness to their loved ones back home. It is all done for the heroes.

I stumbled onto this org on a crafter's website and it has been a blessing. I love creating cards for our troops who are stationed around the world. The many, many notes of appreciations left on the OWH website and facebook pages often bring tears to my eyes and definitely motivate me to do more. It is amazing how such a small thing like a card can bring so much joy to families who are separated by long deployments. And the volunteers who run this organization are top notch. They give tirelessly of their time and I am sure of their funds as well. It is an honor to be counted part of this wonderful group.

I was deploy to Afghanistan in 2010 when I first heard of Operation Write Home. I went to the post office to help a fellow soldier with packages to mail back home when I saw the cards. I was stunned how beautiful the cards were, so I grabbed a few and sent them to my wife and daughters. My family was so amazed and they ask me if the base PX sold them, and I said nope. I told them of this wonderful organization, which has volunteers to make them and send them out to all who would ask. I enthusiastically requested a few boxes for my unit and since my job took me around to different camps, I made sure I took a few and the word was out. Some fellow service members ask me how they could get more cards. I told them to go to Operations Write Home website and see the beautiful magic evolve. Thank you for making my family smile with joy!!!!!

I've been making cards for Operation Write Home for a couple of years. It is very rewarding to know my creative outlet has a place to go - many heroes overseas are receiving beautiful, original, hand-made cards to send notes to their loved ones back home. Let me tell you, it doesn't get any better than knowing that I can activity support these brave men and women who are defending our country.

It is a small contribution on my part - one done lovingly. But it is received in a big way.

I've been making handmade cards for over 10 years and you know, you just don't have THAT many friends and relatives to send them to, although I try! So I was looking for a way to support the troops that would involve my craft in some way and found Operation Write Home. This organization is wonderful and ALL volunteer. Hand made cards can be sent to any of 3 different shippers in the States (check out the Operation Write Home web site) where they are sorted and boxed and sent to units overseas for our brave servicemen and women to have wonderful blank cards to write home on. In this day and age of electronic mail, a hand written card or letter is so precious and will be kept as treasured keepsakes for years by many recipients. Snail mail has a way to touch our lives and hearts that e-mail does not.

I am proud to be a small part of this wonderful organization and thank my fellow card makers all across the world that contribute to this very worthwhile project. And especially I thank Sandy Allnock, the President of the organization, that thought this up and keeps it going tirelessly day in and day out. (Well, I know she gets tired, but she keeps going!!)

Thank you Operation Write home for giving me an outlet for my creativity and supporting our Armed Forces.

I have been sending hand made cards to OWH for a couple of years now. They are dear to my heart because I have family members and friends, and even the Pastor from my church (who is also a Chaplain) that have served. I feel that it's the least I can do for those who are serving our great country. It's how I show my gratitude. Operation Write Home makes that easy. I share the craft I love, OWH sends the cards to the heroes overseas, and they in turn can write home to their family. It's a win-win all the way around!

I have been involved with OWH since 2008. As a cardmaker, it gives me great pleasure giving something back to our military members who serve our country. My daughter is currently active duty in the USMC. She just returned in June from a 7 month deployment in Afghanistan. I can't tell you how much my daughter and her unit appreciated the home made cards that OWH sent to them so that they could keep in touch with their loved ones back home.

Being a recipient of these beautiful hand made cards was such a blessing! Hand written letters and cards are few and far between nowadays. These cards are something I will keep and cherish forever!

I am so proud to be President of an organization like OWH. We get to serve the bravest of the brave - the strongest of the strong. We may only be making cards for them, but it's one way we can help them by doing what we know how to do.

I've never been so glad to be part of any group of people as I have of our cardmakers who come together to support those serving in harm's way. It's astonishing the lengths people go to in making really beautiful cards - spending small fortunes on beautiful papers and cardstock, embellishments, stamps, markers, ribbon....and they do this out of such kindness. They don't need a thank you. They just want to give back. And that really touches my heart.

I can't say enough about OWH, and what they have done for me personally. It's all good to throw some change into the bucket during a "season" of giving. But, to be able to do something that you know first hand will be held by our troops and thier familes is just the most rewarding thing. I know 100% where my donations of handmade cards go to with OWH. I don't have to worry about if half goes to this or that. I love that about them. I also love the hard work they put into packing them. They don't just throw them in a box. They work hard to put all the little touches into each box. It's a ton of work. I'm so happy to donate to this cause. Keep up the great work...OWH.

My friends at the Clerk's office wanted to learn how to make cards, so we made 200 of them for Operation Write Home. It was such a hit that the Clerk of Courts challenged all the County's elected officials to get involved, to pay for the supplies & a check to OWH for shipping. So now we have set up a class for the Board of County Commissioners and another for the Sheriff's Department. There is a lot of love for our troops in this County.

I became involved in Operation Write Home just a few months ago after seeing a button for it at a stamping or scrap booking web site. After reading all the information I could at OWH's site, I knew I'd found my niche. I've just returned to stamping and making cards after dabbling in other art forms for a few years and was so please to find an organization that benefits our folks who are deployed overseas. The thought of helping them keep in touch with their families and friends while I indulge in creating art.....well, how close to perfect can life get? I've volunteered to help those in the armed forces before but this time I get to satisfy two passions at the same time. And I love spreading the excitement of doing this to others as in helping to organize a stamping event at a local store so we could send 155 cards and inspiring my sister to become involved so that she's started making cards too. I'm grateful to our shippers who facilitate and organize the sending of these cards oversees and have "met" a great group of other volunteers who are also involved.

I about burst with smiles to tell them because it touches me so much that we can connect with a service person and who then connects with their family and friends. I have been making cards for Operation Write Home for several years. What a wonderful way to spread some cheer to so many people. I am happy to be able to make cards for OWH (use my supplies, buy more supplies, etc) knowing they will be sent overseas by our three great shippers - once they arrive on a base - the soldier pick cards to send to their family and friends - how many smiles does that one card bring - how much touching of the heart of so many - something personal for a child to carry around and sleep with - a card from Dad or Mom.
Our heroes and their families sacrifice so much to protect everyone's freedom - they deserve the best to send home.

I had a Marine family touch my life and I know how much they would have enjoyed sending and receiving these cards - they motivate me to keep doing this. It is such a little thing we can do for our heroes.

I'm very passionate about encouraging others and helping them to enjoy their lives and achieve their dreams. One of the ways I love to do this is by making cards for people, and have wanted to find a way to impact others with this gift for years.

A friend introduced me to Operation Write Home through a card-making party that OWH hosted in Federal Way, WA in June 2011. I knew right away that this was the opportunity to serve others that had been on my heart for so long. I was very excited to find an organized, experienced group of people who were doing the very thing that I had longed to do (without any idea of how I could do it!).

I have been hosting card-making events to encourage others to help and share that same wonderful feeling of serving others that I have felt. It's been great to see the purpose of OWH touch the hearts of so many people and to see them experience the feeling of contributing to something bigger than themselves. I've seen it give people a sense of purpose, I've seen it touch the hearts of older vets and renew their faith in the American people, and I've heard so many stories of how this mission has kept families communicating in such a personal way.

The resources, tutorials, ideas, helpful tips, videos, up-to-date information, stories of how people and their families are being impacted, and all the volunteer opportunities that OWH provides are excellent. I'm very grateful for the hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence that everyone puts into this organization. I'm honored and humbled to be able to be a small part of fulfilling the vision of OWH, which I support 100% and love sharing with others!

The volunteers that serve Operation Write Home - from the President to all the crafty card makers whole heartedly support the troops by providing beautiful cards for them to write home on. The women who sort - fix- and ship cards to the troops do so with humor and happy hearts. The organization holds weekly broadcasts to keep members up to date on the groups activities and provides information to assist in making each of us better. OWH allows me to combine my desire to support our troops with my passion to be creative. Being an at home mom with fibromyalgia making cards allows me a way to be active without being stressed.

The guidelines listed on the web site are important for the safety of our troops as well as being helpful for the shippers, who are also volunteers with limited time.

The Thursday evening video show as well as the Saturday vlog help me keep up with the changes that occur with the increase in donations and also are very entertaining.

The tutorials on the web site have helped me become a better card maker.

I voiced a concern on their facebook page and was helped not only by the OWH representatives but also helped by many of the volunteers, all of whom were very nice.

Operation Write Home is an incredible organization that allows people to do something simple yet so important to help those serving in the military. People from multiple locations and different motivations all come together to supply beautiful handmade greeting cards to military personnel so that they may stay in touch with their loved ones at home. Run by dedicated volunteers and shippers, over 1.25 million cards have been sent overseas. Card makers can send one card or many, send them frequently or once in a while and still feel as if they have had a positive impact on a deployed hero. The feedback from the hero's speaks to how important this small act is to them and their families and how it provides a very special way for them to stay connected.

I have been involved for six months. OWH is highly organized, and the president is a master of social media! My cardmaking skills have improved as a result of OWH tutorials and other online posts. It is fun to be connected with other people who share my hobby. I love the ripple effect: I get pleasure from making the card, the shipper enjoys sending my card on to the troops, the serviceperson has the fun of picking out the right card for their use and knowing that people at home still care, and the recipient gets the joy of receiving a hand-crafted card from their loved one! My investment of time and money brings joy to several people. I participate because it is both fun and worthwhile. I use to make cards for Operation Write Home but my cards were not good enough. I still recommend they do a great job for the hero's but they could learn some kindness. I make cards for our hero's still in other ways. Operation write home needs to put what they really want on there website they say they don't want envelopes but they do. In this economy they also need to understand that not everyone can give a big donation, they ask for donations too much. They need to appreciate there volunteers and realize home much time they put into doing the cards. I wish i could give a better review They do send cards and they are nice to my hero.

I'm sorry you received feedback poorly, Lesley. We're all about our heroes and providing them with the kinds of cards they're asking for, so we do try to share that information as best we can with our donors. We want to help all of our cardmakers improve, make nicer and nicer cards, as well as have fun while we're doing it. Regarding asking for donations - typically throughout the year, we have a passive request for gifts, and that simple kind of request keeps our shipping funded. It's only during the volume of the holiday shipping season that we find it necessary to do a fundraising campaign. Hopefully you'll see things return to normal after that.

I've been involved in Operation Write Home since December 2010. I've personally made and donated over 1000 blank greeting cards in the 10 months since I began volunteering. It's a great honor to know I am making cards that help families to stay in touch while a hero is deployed. We often hear from the heroes and their families about how much they appreciate the cards and enjoy choosing "just the right one" to send home to a loved one.

OWH is so well organized that it's easy to stay in touch and provide the help they need. The Facebook page and blogs are updated daily, with Facebook being updated throughout the day. These posts allow card makers to know which themes of cards are needed, to learn new techniques, and to network with others from around the world. I see great improvement in my cards thanks to the numerous tutorials, sketches, and other resources provided.

I would encourage anyone who is "crafty" to consider getting involved. There are no minimums or maximums, so you can give as much time as you want with no pressure to do more. If you're not crafty, please consider taking a few moments to write an "Any Hero" letter, which is a message from you to a hero expressing your gratitude for the hero's service to the country. Monetary donations cover the costs of shipping the cards overseas. A donation of $13 covers postage on a box of about 350 cards.
