OPERATION WRITE HOME
November 10, 2012

Absolutely one of the finest organizations supporting our military who are deployed. Many awesome folks from the President through the shippers, cardmakers and board members. It is an honor to know these people.

OPERATION WRITE HOME
October 19, 2011

I absolutely LOVE Operation Write Home (OWH). It is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had. Volunteer cardmakers create blank masterpiece cards to send out to the troops, who send them back with notes to their loved ones and friends. I "met" the president of OWH online on a troop support site and she invited me in. I have had the opportunity to learn and grow as a cardmaker, in part by seeing the lovely contributions of other cardmakers, and in part through the tutorials that OWH has made to assist us. Reading the messages sent to OWH from the families who receive these cards from their loved ones is the BEST, especially the impact it has on their children and spouses!! And there is no prssure. You can create one card or a hundred, because we want each one to be truly worthy of our heroes. Folks who don't have that creative mindset can easily participate as well by sending donations for the postage to ship cards and by writing "hero letters" to the troops thanking them for their service (hero letters are enclosed in every box of cards that are shipped)! This organization creates a WIN (cardmakers. letter writers and donors), WIN (deployed service members who so want to stay in touch with folks back home), WIN (the familiy and friends receiving these cards) atmosphere and it doesn't get any better than that!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have been able to see the joy and pride of the cards makers. I have read the words of our servicemen and women and their famililes regarding the profound impact these cards have on them. And I have actually received a couple of the cards from a soldier would did not know I was a part of Operation Write Home, when he thanked me for care packages I sent to him.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Clone Sandy Allnock, the founder and current president...she is the most amazing person I have ever met.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Cannot think of a thing.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Taught me card making skills, allowed me to meet a ton of people, made me appreciate our troops and their families even more, highlighted the goodness in many, many people!

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Like a million (we have sent that many cards!!) bucks and more!!!
