Issues: Food, Environment

Location: 9000 16th St Silver Spring MD 20910 USA

Mission: Trees for the Future is an agroforestry resource center, working with people to improve livelihoods and restore degraded lands to sustainable productivity through planting beneficial trees.
Results: 2010 saw a year of significant growth for the international tree planting program. We are presently working in 28 developing countries: Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Columbia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritania, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, the Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. TREES has been able to provide more on-site technical support to these projects and this has resulted in a major increase to approximately 17,100,000 trees planted in 2010 -- about 21% more than in the previous year.
Target demographics: Instead of targeting specific projects or countries, people in developing communities come to us for help. We work hard to make it known to the people of these communities that there is help for them to save their lands and their way of life - and that it's FREE because concerned people here (like you) are aware of the critical problems they are facing and want to help.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 17,100,000 trees planted in 2010, Thousands of lives changed
Geographic areas served: Africa, Asia, Central America, South America, Caribbean
Programs: - On-site country programs - The Global Cooling Action Center - Loret Miller Ruppe Center For Sustainable Development - Long Distance Agroforestry Training Program

One of my favorite charities that I have regularly donated to and supported over the past decade. $40 USD can help plant 400 trees. That's 10x higher promise than most other tree planting organizations.

Looking forward to seeing more awesome work from Trees for the Future :)

This organization has grown slowly over the years, reporting without slick brochures and working in cooperation with those they serve. They recently lost their founder but I surely hope that they continue his priorities!

I travelled to the Philippines to work restoring forested areas after a typhoon. TREES personnel were very helpful in organizing local labor and equipment to perform the work. We accomplished a great deal of work and helped the local people and schools.

I have always been in love with God's greatest gift to mankind "Mother Nature" and I came across this organization after searching for NGO's that is helping to make this world a better place to live for people who needs assistance and since trees are the most important resource, every effort put by this organization has had a great impact on many lives.
Looking at the progress they have made since they came in to existence is remarkable and I wish more people join and contribute in any way they can to Save the planet and leave a beautiful world for our future generations.

This organization is awesome. They have provided aid to dozens of countries around the world. Not only has this company planted over 60 million trees but have done so at an extremely low cost of less than 10 cents a tree. Other companies charge a dollar or even more to get a tree in the ground. In addition to planting trees, Trees for the Future has been able to provide incomes and food for families by educating communities in sustainable agroforestry techniques. TREES has helped fortify soil, prevent erosion, filter drinking water, reintroduce biodiversity and provide forage and building materials on top of lots of other benefits to local people and the environment. Please help out this great organization; one dollar helps plant 10 trees!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

help find them more funding so they could expand their programs.

Want to respond to air pollution, desertification, climate change, soil degradation, erosion, excess carbon in the atmosphere, poor water quality, loss of habitat and many other problems? The solution is to plant trees. Trees for the Future helps people to do just that, and more. Agroforestry, biofuel production, efficient cook stoves are other benefits that Trees for the Future are helping people achieve.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have helped to raise money for tree planting projects through Trees for the Future, and I have purchased tree planting certificates in honor of loved ones, as a gift to them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing that I am doing something to help the earth and its people

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

re-plant forests for the next generations

Few people know that Trees For The Future is a 20 year old agro forestry NGO. Agro Forestry is a holistic way of planting trees within the context of sustainable development. Their website is full of content about what they do. I am involved with their work through a Corporate Sponsorship program that allows us to use Tree Planting Gifts as currency to reward and recognize individuals in corporations for their participation in various green initiatives.

I have gifted trees to individuals on behalf of our business. Funds go to projects specified by individual gift recipients. A positive, productive and impactful way to use tree planting as recognition currency.
