Issues: Animals

Mission: The mission of the SPCA of Tompkins County is to protect companion animals. We are a no-kill shelter dedicated to preventing animal cruelty and overpopulation. We promote responsible pet stewardship by providing education, counseling and training to nurture and enhance the human-animal bond.
Programs: The SPCA of Tompkins County, NY, is a no-kill, open admission animal shelter serving the residents of Tompkins County. We provide shelter for nearly 3,000 neglected, abused, abandoned and otherwise homeless companion animals each year. We provide extensive adoption services to place these animals into loving new homes. Our humane education program includes assisting qualified Tompkins County residents with low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for their pets (over 1,200 surgeries in 2008). It also includes on- and off-site youth education to prevent animal cruelty and to help diminish the numbers of unwanted animals in our county. We provide behavior training and counseling to assist members of the public with their companion animals, and we are a resource for any member of the community who is in need of help for a companion animal.
