It educates and empowers people at all socioeconomic levels as everyone, no matter how wealthy or impoverished, has difficulties whenever they or their loved-ones become seriously ill.

Patient Institute continues to intensify its outreach programs through the development of innovative
communications tools to expand the number of patients and physicians who receive the information
it provides.

I have the privilege of being appointed to the Advisory Board of the Patient Institute in San Antonio, TX. Over my 2 years of volunteering I have seen the Institute expand its valuable work to many areas in the community. The focus of the Institute is to educate the community, school children, college and university students and so forth about how to navigate through the complicated US health care system. They also provide education on health and wellness and many other topics that inform about keeping both physically and psychological well.
They have developed a course for pre - med and allied health students which covers topics such as business practices, finance, ethics, health and wellness and a raft of other topics which will assist these students to understand how to manage their lives in the health care arena.
The principles of the Patient Institute are kind and caring and very focused on improving the knowledge base of those they present to. This is always done in a in a very understanding and positive manner.

I've worked in the medical field for 26 years as an office manager for Dr. Irving A. Ratner, Pediatric Surgeon. What a privilege that was to work for such a respected, great physician. Since his passing, The Patient Institute was founded in his memory. He was the first Pediatric Surgeon to practice in South Texas and I will always admire the love and dedication he had for his hard work and always putting the patient first. Over the years, I have learned so much about the difficulties patients and their families face with the healthcare system. The Patient Institute is an excellent resource in guiding patients and their families through the healthcare system.

Helping people find a primary care physician. Teaching how to talk to your doctor. Providing the tools to navigate problems and visits to the doctor's office, a hospital stay, or an ER visit. These are only a few ways the Patient Institute helps individuals find their way through the complicated health care system. And new doctors, medical students and other health professionals also benefit through Patient Institute train the trainer programs that will ultitmately help and empower patients. We are lucky to have such a great non-profit organization in Bexar county!

I have been so impressed with the way that the Patient Institute has carefully determined the need in our Community and has worked with other community leaders to target the greatest need. They have touched so many people with their workshops and presentations. And the database of Doctors accepting new patients has filled a neede void in the San Antonio community.
