The purpose is to support all fairbanks north star borough public libraries, to enhance their operations, to encourage and support expansion of library buildings, facilities, and equipment, and to create, manage, and build an investment fund to assist in these endeavors.
Guys read: teams of male volunteers read portions of "boy-friendly" books to 4th grade boys during lunch. Pages are projected onto a screen so the groups of students can follow along. Copies of the books are given to each school library. The public library hosts a party at the program's conclusion.
management of foundation art collection: fees paid for art acquisitions, as well as storage and insurance on the art collection, which was donated to the foundation and is maintained for use in borough library facilities. Pieces from the collection are on display at the noel wien library. Other pieces have been selected for the north pole library.
community outreach: the foundation supports community outreach efforts in borough libraries by providing funding grants for reading incentive programs, including the cabin fever program, a summer reading program for adults, and raven about reading, which offiers a specially designed library card for 1st and 2nd graders. The foundation also hosts and staffs an annual booth at the tanana alley state fair.
