Sunkissed Acres and Ms. Yonts are wonderful! When I first met Ms. Yonts and said I wanted to visit, she said "come on up." There weren't any sketchy appointments that needed to be made only at certain times on certain days, etc. She only said, "let me know when you're close by so I can be home to meet you." Everything was transparent for this organization. She was more than happy to show me her records when I had mentioned something about donating to legitimate organizations. She introduced me to all of the animals (and people!) at the rescue, and each animal had a story: a retired Grand Prix jumper, a retired racehorse turned slaughter horse turned Olympic-level Eventer, etc. The youngest horse there at the time was twenty-five and looked amazing. The farm is immaculate, and the horses are happy and safe. That was a few years ago. I now try to make regular trips up to visit and lend a helping hand when I can. I would have no qualms donating to nor volunteering for this organization.

I have been a volunteer with Sunkissed Acres since 2008 and am also an adopter. The aminals who find refuge at Sunkissed have come from a number of unfortunate circumstances, from financial distress to unspeakable cruelty. Each and every one of them receives the best care possible, they are thoroughly evaluated for placement, and offered for adoption to carefully screened homes. There isn't a single horse that has come through the gates who is forgotten. Ever. The Director can tell you where each of the hundreds of horses placed in the past decade are and how they are doing. I am proud to be associated with Sunkissed Acres and look forward to many more years of volunteering.

Sunkissed Acres serves as an advocate for animal welfare in a depressed area of the country. Horses are treated with the utmost dignity and care no matter what their situation and many horses (and other animals) have been given a chance through the work and concern of Sunkissed and especially, Lori, who manages the operation. This is a very worthwhile organization for which to contribute and all financial resources go directly to the horses.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My experience is sunkissed works o place horses in the best situation for the horse and person and also takes on horses because of what is best for the horse and family. Sometimes that may mean providing some food for the horse to get a family through a difficult time and sometimes it means taking the horse and homing it elsewhere or keeping it until the right situation comes about.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to get more volunteers and donors

Lori took in a very old starving horse left at our barn. We were very lucky she made the room for this horse. A month later we went to see the old girl and could hardly believe our eyes. I love it there.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

care of the old and lame and the starved and needy.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them more money

Sunkissed Acres does an invaluable service for the needy and neglected horses in the surrounding area. It is well run by a dedicated person who works well with the community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the animals that have needed rehabilitation. Lori has an amazing ability to bring animals back from the brink to good health.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

have a difficult time filling the shoes of the present manager. She is doing a great job.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Watching a scared, skinny horse find a restful haven at Sunkissed Acres where there is always food to eat, friends to hang out with and kind humans to care for it.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Lori is mostly a one woman operation. Most of the volunteers that I have met over the years have come from an hour or more away to help with fund raisers and the annual open house.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

take in many more animals that need someone to care for them.

Ways to make it better...

In a perfect world, everyone would take great care of their horses and there would be no need for a horse rescue. But unfortunatley that is not the case and Sunkissed Acres fills a need.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of dedicated, trained volunteers from the community and fund raising.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is a well run rescue that gives the horses a second chance for a quality life.

This is a wonderful, well run organization where each horse taken in can bloom to its full potential regardless of its physical or mental condition when it arrived.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the whole community. The horses taken in also show the results of what wonderful care can do.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

change nothing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the absolute devotion showed by Lori. She is amazing at what she does and is a role model to everyone she meets.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The amazing thing about this rescue is that Lori does most of it herself. The town shes in has been hit very hard financially and no one there has any time to volunteer. Any of the volunteers Ive met have come from an hour or more away and are wonderful

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Save so many more animals in need. The impact on the lives of horses in need would be immeasurable.

Ways to make it better...

It couldn't have been better.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The lack of support found in the town. I am sure that if the town was in better economic standing, she would get tons more support. Her support base comes mainly from people she meets online through a horse bulletin board.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is the most well run, cleanest, friendliest rescue I have ever stepped foot on. I have seen quite a few horse rescues and all have paled in comparison to this one. Neglected animals show positive results faster here than anywhere else Ive seen.

A neat and well run organization. I was impressed with the happiness of the horses there. Every horse was indivually cared for according to there specific needs.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching a starved and abused horse come back to being a viable and useful kids horse.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching the kids with the horses

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

stop worrying about the numbers all the time and about the horses it cant save.

About every week
