This is a very cool project that gives an amazing opportunity for musicians as well as interested young people in the city to interact with underprivileged children while making a sustainable difference in their lives through music.
I feel incredibly proud when I see Music Basti. It reaffirms to me that what we've been able to do at The YP Foundation for young people enables them to become their own change makers. Faith has grown tremendously throughout her time with us and I could think of nothing that would make us prouder than Music Basti. TYPF is really happy to support the excellent work that they do. Music Basti staff have a finesse with how the details matter to them. They genuinely care for the communities of children they work with. I think this project has a lot of scope and we're happy to support them!
Music Basti is a unique project running in New Delhi, reaching out to underprivileged children through the medium of music. As a musician who volunteers with MB, I can definitely attest to the fact that the MB team is a group of extremely hard-working people who understand how to use music as an interactive medium to reach out to their particular audience. The workshops are a wonderful experience for the children, as they not only get to learn about and listen to different styles of music, but also have a chance to interact with the musicians personally. On the other side, the volunteers also get a chance to work innovatively with the medium of music, as MB is not just about a performance -- but a very special and intimate experience between two groups of people getting to know each other better.
I am extremely impressed with the concept of music basti, having had an opportunity to interact with its staff members. Their project is not only unique in its approach to working with urban street children but also something that unifies young people across social stratas and brings them together in moments of play and learning.
Music Basti is a wonderful initiative to help the street children who are going through the process of healing at rehabilitation centres. It's much better than teaching mannerism and giving lectures because music touches the soul and heals the emotional wounds. So, it's really a wonderful step in the right direction to achieve the target of a society which is all inclusive.
I have been watching music basti grow in the last year or so and the sort of work which its doing + the direction it takes keeps surprising me every time! To start with the sort of happiness every volunteer with the project exhibits is a tremendous achievement. I think that the inclusion of child rights within its curriculum, gives the programme SO much scope to go forward, it's simplicity, easy interaction & awesome communications material is also lovely. In terms of feedback, maybe goals can be more specific, looking at creating a system which can be implemented and taken forward would need identification of the right organizations and focus should be put on that. I think that certain choices in regards to direction need to be taken strategically. Its a fantastic and fresh initiative which needs all the support possible!
Music Basti is really one of a kind. They help out in the most wonderful of ways. Their workshops aim at letting music be a focus point. The work done here is brilliant and I hope it continues to do such good work.
Music basti is a unique project based on a truly unique idea. Of the many projects that I have seen, that engage with children, music basti stood out because of it's innovative and creative approach towards value and character building in street children. I have personally attended several music basti workshops and have seen the impact that they made on the children. Not only were the workshops extremely well organized, but their content was also remarkable. Some of the best musicians of delhi- vocalists and instrumentalists were brought on to conduct the workshops. The musicians were extremely friendly and loving with the children and their music definitely had a therapeutic effect on them. I saw many kids who are inclined to restlessness and violence, be calmed down during workshops. All in all, the initiative is unique, led by truly motivated people and must continue on a sustained basis for it to have the best possible impact. Tanvi.
I met Faith and Ankit from Music Basti at a workshop for young entrepreneurs and was immediately impressed by their knowledge and empathy for lesser priviledged children. They came across as passionate and committed to their work, and determined to induct as many people into their interactive sessions with the children as possible. Curious to learn more about their work, i attended one of their volunteer orientation and induction meetings, and was once again pleasantly surprised by their frank and friendly approach, and their use of group activities and discussion while planning their next visit to a children's home. The most impressive aspect of Music Basti's operations is that they encourage opinions from everybody and are open to listening as well as teaching. They are respectful of all and allow the children the space to enjoy themselves while learning about sound and creative expression, something which brings light and positivity which is otherwise lacking in their lives. Simple but relevant, is how i would describe Music Basti, and consider their work to be worthy of attention and development.
Music Basti is a great concept to bring joy to those little children living of the road. Music indeed transcends barriers of all sorts and this is an amazing initiative taken to engange street children and involve them in performing art. Just going to them, hanging out with them and seeing the sheer joy in their eyes when they hear the music being performed is profound. Its an amazing experience to see how some thing this small can be so meaning full and big to those kids who other wise have a dull life. All is takes is a thought and that is what music basti personifies. Care, art and touch!.
