Thanks to strong community support, CNSC continues to lead in its service to new immigrants. CNSC was chosen by IBM, TeamTech, and United Way to host a pilot program for nonprofit agencies. Plans include a Web site, a drop-in computer lab and student internship program, and bilingual instructional products for new immigrants that can be marketed to governments, nonprofits, and industries. CNSC has also been chosen to commence a program to educate and assist low-income Chinese speakers in the essentials of hotel and office custodial work.
Programs: CNSC is all about helping Immigrant Newcomers. Our volunteers help Newcomers with everything from Citizenship and Naturalization issues to Translation, Letter Writing and Form Filing. CNSC also provides Crisis and Emergency Services and Transportation Information.
A primary goal of CNSC is to provide technical job training to residents of the San Francisco Bay Area. Many new immigrants are unfamiliar with hiring practices in the U.S. They don't know where to look, how to apply, and what to expect once they land a job.
Understanding the laws of one's new country can be a frightening challenge for a newcomer, especially when the laws keep changing. CNSC responds to the urgent need for clarification about such changes through our Education Seminars. The Supplementary Security Income Seminar helps recent immigrants keep abreast of important changes in law and policies. In October of 1998, CNSC also began sponsoring Small Business Workshops. The San Francisco Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) provides services to disabled persons and has a counselor on site at CNSC once a week.
