Programs: Ashesi University started classes in March 2002, and offers accredited bachelors degrees in business administration, computer science and management information systems. Students complete a core curriculum including humanities and social sciences which provides a strong foundation in critical thinking, quantitative and communication skills. As part of Ashesi's curriculum students are asked to show initiative a seek out local challenges to address. In a required four-year series of leadership seminars, students discuss issues critical to building a better society. After speaking with local non-profit leaders students select their own community service projects and dedicate their time and skills to making a difference. To achieve a diverse socioeconomic mix in its student body, Ashesi offers financial aid to close to half of our students - totaling close to $400,000 each academic year.

Ashesi University is a private, non-profit liberal arts university located in Accra, Ghana. Our mission is to train a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa and to nurture excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Our Curriculum develops skills, moral fiber, and entrepreneurial foresight in students. When students leave Ashesi they will have the tools they need to transform Africa.Today, Africa faces complex societal problems that can only be solved by Africans with the right training. This is why, in a marked departure from traditional higher education in Ghana - which emphasizes rote learning - Ashesi has introduced an academic program grounded in the liberal arts, offering degrees in business administration and computer science, with the specific goal of teaching its students to think critically and act ethically. Our model of education will help Ghana mirror the economic transformation that countries like Korea and Taiwan achieved in the late 20th century when they rebuilt their educational systems. We aspire to develop citizens who actively participate in Ghana''s democracy and set new standards for industry and civil societyAshesi University also seeks to stem the brain drain in Ghanaian academia by paying salaries that keep its faculty and staff motivated and committed to their work in Ghana.
