My Nonprofit Reviews

TuneyFletch
Review for Humane Society Of Greater Kansas City, Kansas City, KS, USA
I started volunteering to give myself a break from job hunting. At first it was "all about me". After the first visit I realized that being jobless was not the most tragic thing in the world; that these poor sweet victims of cruelty and neglect had no family but the staff and thatthey all have so much love to give, if a human would just take a moment to see. The staff at HSGKC are some of the most loving and selfless people I have ever met. Everything they do is for the best interest of the animals in their care, even if it means getting up at 5:00 AM to go to the shelter so a dog could be picked up by his forever mom.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
my adoption of Fletch, an American Staffordshire terrier mix. Fletch was rescued from a horrible life as a bait dog in a fighting ring. HSGKC nursed him back to health and worked to socialize him so he would not fear people anymore. He's a sweet, slobbery boy with a wonderful personality that Pete and the staff helped to nurture.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
get the shelter and others like it Federal funding. Maybe is we spend less on war and more on saving and improving lives we would all be better for it. There are just not enough hours in a week to raise the funds and awareness needed.
