Review for WINGS Guatemala, Pueblo, CO, USA
"WINGS is doing the most important work in Guatemala," a donor told me when I first moved to Guatemala. He'd been in Guatemala for decades and had seen many nonprofit organizations in action here. Witnessing WINGS' work since then, I can now wholeheartedly say the same. WINGS provides the education and means for families to make informed decisions and take control of when and if they wish to have children. This has almost endless economic and social benefits for the current and future generations. As both a donor and a volunteer, I have seen the careful, financially responsible, and compassionate approach WINGS staff and board of directors take in every decision and action they make. I studied nonprofit leadership at Georgetown University, and I can say that WINGS is a consistent example of best practices in nonprofit management. I am proud to be a WINGS donor because I know that I am supporting work that will make a genuine, lasting difference for the people of Guatemala.
Linda, we cannot even put into words how much we appreciate you and all you do for WINGS! Your words have brought so much joy and pride to our team. ThankYouThankYouThankYou!
Review for BRILLO DE SOL, Baltimore, MD, USA
Brillo de Sol does exceptional work with exceptional children. The staff genuinely cares about every child, giving them loving, personal attention; carefully assessing their needs; and finding ways to reveal each child's abilities and help them to succeed. Guatemala desperately needs more schools and programs like Brillo de Sol.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Expand it! They're doing all they can with the resources they have, but there are so many more children who could benefit from their work. More resources would allow them to reach additional children, both in the Antigua area and far beyond.
Review for People for Guatemala Inc, Naples, FL, USA
People for Guatemala does exceptional work. Their integrated programs involve community members to provide long-term, sustainable change. I've worked with numerous organizations in Guatemala, and have found People for Guatemala to be run efficiently and competently, with a strong emphasis on helping people to help themselves.

Review for Pueblo A Pueblo, Neenah, WI, USA
I became involved with PaP after I stumbled across the website while researching an upcoming vacation in Guatemala. The more I learned about the organization, the more I knew I wanted to help them make a difference. I've seen with my own eyes the important work that Pueblo a Pueblo is doing, and I strongly believe in its community-based, secular approach to helping indigenous Guatemalans to improve their own lives.
Pueblo a Pueblo focuses on education, health, and nutrition - three critical areas in helping today's children to break free of the poverty that has gripped their families and community for generations - and over the past several years I've witnessed the impact of their programs: I've seen the children hungrily line up for PaP's school lunches; I've watched kids learning how to grow healthy food in their school gardens; and I've seen children sitting in rapt attention during story time at the library. I've also heard about one of my favorite programs - Mother-Child Health - where moms receive pre- and post-natal care, their babies receive checkups and vaccinations, and parents attend monthly sessions on parenting and family planning.
I guess what has meant the most to me, however, is meeting my sponsored child and his mom when I visited in 2010. I was nervous about the language differences but I found that smiles know know language boundaries. But while the smiles warmed my heart, what really showed me the effect of PaP's work were the grateful tears in his mother's eyes as she asked the translator to tell me how much the ability for her son to go to school meant to her. It still grips my heart just writing about it.
I am now a board member and know the organization from the inside out, and it has only increased my respect and admiration for the organization and its owrk. I can honestly say that Pueblo a Pueblo is making a difference in the lives of the children and the communities where they work. I am proud to have a small part in making that difference.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The child health and education sponsorship, as well as in seeing all of the projects first-hand.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would like to see the Mother & Child program grow and expand. Education, health - everything - starts with a healthy mom, knowledgeable parents, and well-baby care in the critical first 5 years.
