Review for Child Crisis Arizona, Mesa, AZ, USA
When Crisis Nursery opened its doors more than 30 years ago, I volunteered to rock babies. How we have evolved since then. Babies still are rocked but Crisis Nursery is so much more. Our mission is to break the cycle or child abuse. We work with parents to teach positive skills; we screen kids for possible health issues; we have a day respite center as well as a 24/7 shelter. In a separate building we have FACES, an early head start program for at risk preschoolers preparing them to succeed in school. We have a home visitation program for young mothers as well as a foster care training program. Best of all is the staff at Crisis Nursery. The pay isn't stellar but their attitudes are. They are passionate about what they do. I now sit on the policy board of the Nursery and I am proud to be associated with such a fine non-profit organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I have seen a child who was brought in by the police, trembling and frightened evolve into a happy youngster with a safe place to sleep, clean clothes and three daily meals, toys to play with and nurturing adults that never strike her. I have seen children laughing on the playground many for the first time ever. I have seen youngsters playing with a visiting puppy. I have rocked a six-month old baby with a black eye until he fell asleep in my arms.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Raise funds to enable Crisis Nursery to continue its current work and start a family center program for the immediate neighborhood which is far below the poverty level.
