Review for Camp Good Days & Special Times, Inc., Mendon, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I live in a rural area and at the time I was diagnosed there were not any cancer support groups where I lived. While I was going through my treatments a lady I worked with who volunteered at Camp asked me if I would like to attend Camp for the Women's Oncology Program. I was scared, not knowing what to expect at Camp, but I said I would try it. Well, it turned out to be THE BEST Support Group I could ever have found. The volunteers and the fellow campers have all been wonderful. I have gone to Camp for several years now and look forward to going again. Camp is my Support system as well as some of the wonderful ladies I have met there.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way it helped my heal emotionally. I am so glad I went to camp that first time and I continue to go when I can for additional contact and support with other cancer survivors.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be darned proud of myself for all the love, fun, caring and support I have given to so many people who have benefited from Camp.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

it gave me hope and encouragement to live. That I was not the only person with cancer and that I could survive this dreadful disease with the support of staff, volunteers and fellow campers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

the BEST. The staff and volunteers are so in tune with peoples feelings. They always make everyone feel special. They are so helpful if anyone needs anything. They take time to talk to people one on one. Give the emotional support a person needs.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help alot more people that could use the support that Camp gives.

Ways to make it better...

I could have stayed a few more days and spent more time with the other campers.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funds to keep Camp going for the many people who need to attend camp. Unfortunately, the need for Camp will never go away.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I truly appreciate Camp Good Days and Special Times. It has helped me more than it knows. I cannot thank the staff or volunteers enough for what they have given me.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Client Served & I did craft projects, cooking, art projects, boat rides, campfires, jewelry making, gotten health advice. Had a terrific time while being treated like a queen.
