Review for Youthlinc, Salt Lake City, UT, USA
I received an envelope yesterday from AXA Equitable. The envelope included a single page typed letter that informed me of the outcome of a scholarship I had applied for with them, one that required having been part of a community service project. I highlighted my experiences with YouthLINC and all of the several projects I completed as part of the program. I was very excited and overjoyed to learn that I will receive the scholarship! I thank YouthLINC for the opportunity and experience that led to making this scholarship possible for me; thank you so much for making this experience possible for me! I loved the trip and the service, and I now have even greater proof of the good that comes out of doing good. The YouthLINC trip really opened me up to possible careers in the future that would focus on humanitarian aid or simply helping with global or just local issues. Working for one of the United Nations' branches is a dream of mine. I am planning on studying international relations of some form of anthropological study at the University of Chicago, and the scholarship gives some much appreciated help. I cannot fully express how wonderful and amazing the YouthLINC experience was and all the benefits I have garnered from participating; the local and the international service alike have been enormously rewarding. I have learned a lot about what it means to be a part of a community and what it means to serve through the YouthLINC program.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
This organization has changed my career focus, and it has opened me up to new volunteer opportunities. The experiences at the local level coupled with the amazing international service trip have given me great experiences in multiple settings and in multiple functions. I developed new skills while making a positive difference in the world-wide community.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I don't know what I would change. The service trip was amazing and to make it longer would be awesome, though perhaps not practical for everyone. The organization is overall very fully-encompassing of all the needs of the groups worked with. I suppose the only change would be to add a crash course in the culture to be visited. A good basic understanding of customs and social mores might make for a smoother trip; mine was the first group to visit Bautista Grande, and there were some small hiccups at first.
