Review for Total Family Care Coalition, Washington, DC, USA
Through a family and youth-driven approach, Total Family Care Coalition provides essential supports for children/youth with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges and their families in the District of Columbia. They advocate for the rights of youth and families, provide linkage to community services, ensure that the family voice and choice is honored, provide technical assistance and leadership for other child-serving systems on best practices and care planning in accordance to System of Care and Wraparound principles. TFCC supports youth and families in navigating the public system, and through the use of peer to peer support they engage families in ways that empower and encourage the utilization of their own natural support systems and a decrease on formal service delivery as a long term goal. The efforts of TFCC are critical for the system transformation process in the District. TFCC educates the community and stakeholders on authentic youth and family involvement and develops the much needed family leaders for the DC Children's System of Care reform effort.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Increase the funding they receive for youth/family leader development, service delivery, training, and infrastructure development. Additionally, I would like to see that the DC System of Care leadership fully perceives the Family-Run Organization as a primary stakeholder in much the same way that child welfare, mental health, and juvenile justice are viewed in the Children's System of Care.
