Review for American Bible Society, Philadelphia, PA, USA
As an American Bible Society representative, I want to assure you that we don’t take your comments lightly. In these tough economic times, we know it is often difficult to understand how compensation is determined for the leaders of large organizations. Let me provide you with some context.
The 2008 annual salary survey of New York City nonprofits (Source: Professionals for Nonprofits) indicates that the salaries for the two American Bible Society executives you reference are in line with average salaries for CEOs and presidents of similarly sized organizations to American Bible Society.
Executive salaries are determined by several factors including location (New York City is one of the world’s most expensive cities in which to live-- and especially housing which is included in the figures you see here), competitive compensation analysis (we work to recruit leaders of the highest caliber and ministry experience) and other factors. We have a 195 year old commitment to New York City as a national center of commerce, culture and conversation, but we understand the costs associated with this commitment.
Responsible financial stewardship continues to be a top priority for American Bible Society. Looking at most recent data for 2010, American Bible Society increased its operating efficiency by reducing expenses more than 16% over 2009 levels.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
... its impact in the lives of struggling children in America's cities, members of the American military community, young adults rediscovering Scripture and first Bibles for people around the world.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
... pray for God's continued favor to carry out ABS's mission.
