I have been a sponsor of Children's Fund since 2005. I was very satisfied, and still am, with the 20% expense deduction from my monthly donation, and well aware that all organizations need to deduct administrative costs. I always give more than the minimum monthly assistance. However, I was absolutely appalled by the organizations administrators, when they decided to withhold 20% from ‘special gifts’ and holiday/birthday contributions that go directly to the child and family. That is outright extortion and greed. A $2.50 administrative fee seemed appropriate for these types of contributions. I would have been willing to have a small increase in that fee if the costs were excessive. But, come on – 20%? That’s taking money straight out of the mouths of the children that they are mandated to serve.
I’m continuing to sponsor my child with monthly donations, but will not be sending any additional monies to the family as long as Child Fund continues this practice.
