PPAF has supported travel to Haiti for expertise in bio-digestion. This has resulted in several
locations having biogas for cooking. Support for solar cooking is also making possible reduction of huge mountains of wood used for cooking by the World Food Program in Kenya by demonstrating efficiency and effectiveness of solar cookers.

Works hard to promote clean cooking options for Haiti. Includes
ethanol, solar, and biogas in supported fuels for Haiti which needs all
of the above!

PPAF is working with excellent partners to promote sustainable fuel and improved cook stoves
for Haiti. PPAF identified many ways to make ethanol production more efficient and is working to demonstrate that high quality affordable ethanol for cooking can be produced in Haiti using local feed
stock. Wood and wood charcoal are currently used by 1.85 million households (out of 2 million) in Haiti using about 4 million tons of trees. Sustainable yield from current Haitian forest is estimated at .5 million tons. Volunteer time is used to stretch effective use of donations to the maximum extent possible.

I visited the ACFFC in Jacmel Haiti to train 12 families to use ethanol cookstoves. The ACFFC was very well organized, the mothers using the stoves were very enthusiastic, and the ACFFC staff and older children helping with the pilot project were very professional. ACFFC is a combination orphanage, day care center, k-12, and vocational school whic definitely makes a life changing difference for 100 children in Jacmel. ACFFC is also playong a key role in introducing a cookstove alternative which eliminates deforestation resulting from cooking food as well as health problems from indoor air pollution. Clean, compact cooking inside the home is now a reality. Ethanol is made in Haiti.

Review for Public-Private Alliance Foundation, Hastings on Hudson, NY, USA
The Public Private Alliance Foundation is working to bring cookstove practices which protect human health from lethal indoor smoke, preserve forests, allow women to avoid dangerous wood gathering missions and girls to go to school. Work in Haiti promises to demonstrate the practicality and economic viability of ethanol cookstoves to replace current charcoal based methods.
