Review for Becky Lee Women's Support Fund, Washington, DC, USA
I personally benefited from Becky’s Fund two years ago, when Becky Lee helped me escape an escalating abusive marriage. She let me stay at her place until her volunteers and I were able to find an apartment that fit within my budget, was metro accessible, and close to my job. I was not able to think clearly at that time. She provided me with emotional support, directed me on the next steps I needed to take, and took me out to meet new people and friends. I was new in this country. My husband had isolated me, and did not let me meet other people other than his own few friends and my in-laws. She supported me during my immigration process by writing an affidavit, as well as asked her volunteers to contribute their experiences regarding my case. During the last two years, lifted me up when I was down or discouraged, and accompanied me through all court appointments regarding the assault charges, as well as my divorce. In court, she testified as a witness in support of my uncontested divorce.
Becky focuses on empowering people, and educates them on recognizing the signs of domestic violence. I was blessed to have met her, as I was not willing to use public women’s shelters.
Becky is a very passionate and energetic person. She loves what she does and draws people easily in to support the cause and spread more awareness about domestic violence. Besides all her great work and growth that I have been seeing for the last two years, she is a caring, lovely and funny friend who will always be there for you with no strings attached.
