Review for LIVESTRONG Foundation, Austin, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Lance Armstrong Foundation has provided me with a conduit to channel my rage, my energy and my desire to LiveSTRONG during my battle to overcome my Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Since my diagnosis in May of 2000, through numerous treatments, 2 relapses and now being cancer-free for 1 year, the LAF has been there. Events such as The LiveSTRONG Challenge and The Ride for the Roses have provided a means of celebrating life and uniting with cancer warriors from all over the country and the world to show our strength in this fight. By embracing the LiveSTRONG lifestyle, I have become an avid cyclist, and have ridden thousands of miles during treatment and with active cancer. It is what has gotten me through the past 9 years. Founded by cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, both the man and the people who work in the organization provide inspiration to all of us to work tirelessly to rid the world of cancer.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Becoming a comprehensive resource for information pertaining to all cancers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Begin developing small, regional "LiveSTRONG Help Centers," to bring the online resources down to street level for those who need more than online access.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Becoming united with thousands of cancer fighters and Survivors in the push for research and cures to all cancers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Incredibly dedicated to working in tribute to others who have lost their lives to cancer, so that their loss would not be in vain.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide outreach to thousands of less fortunate people who need access to information and care as they deal with their cancer.

Ways to make it better...

The online presence of LAF had been able to develop to the level it is now, but 5-7 years ago.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Trying to move too fast, with limited financial resources, although the sense of urgency is appropriate with the cancer death rates still exceptionally high.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Lance Armstrong is a model for all high-profile "celebrities," showing the way to give back and take charge. This is a man who should be awarded a Nobel Prize.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
