Review for Kids In Need Foundation, Roseville, MN, USA
I am a Forensic Science teacher in Texas. With the budget cuts, this is a difficult time to start a new class, but the Kids in Need Grant helped make it possible. The application process was straightforward and easy, which means a lot to a teacher, as we are always short on time.
The check arrived in a format that was easy to work with. I have experience working with activity funds, and this was by far the easiest to deposit and use. Our finance clerk was even impressed!
My project gave the students a chance to make 2-D and 3-D dental impressions, just like it would be done in a crime lab. This helped them practice lab technique and in realizing that not every experiment comes out perfect the first time. It gave them a feel for the amount of time that goes into collecting evidence, comparing it, and drawing conlusions. This hands on experience is crucial to the critical thinking required in higher level science classes, and would not have been possible without KINF.
