Review for Girls to Women, East Palo Alto, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

While not currently a volunteer (but I would with this group in a heartbeat!) I have volunteer in the past with girls in this geographical area in the past who were under the direction of Girls to Women Executive Director, Patricia Foster. It is astonishing to witness their progress from shy, noncommunicable, academically fragile children to girls who develop strong communication skills, study skills and most importantly a respect and desire for education and ultimately a college degree. The program develops confidence in these girls and it has the ability to override any negative or toxic influences a girl might have at home that affects her self-image and ability to dream. I have seen it happen. I attended a graduation ceremony to see a girl I worked under Pat Foster with move on. I was so amazed at what a smart and confident preteen she was and elated that through Girls to Women she had developed and excelled enough to be accepted at an excellent local private school on a scholarship. I love this program and the foundation it lays to build empowered young girls who, I am certain can be tommorow's leaders!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The program has an excellent reputation in the community. I have NEVER heard anything but positive reviews about it and in my own limited observation, I have been impressed, not only by the girls' growth, but by the enthusiasm and dedication of the director and the loving and committed staff.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would love to see this program even more visibile on thisSan Francisco Peninsula so that it could attract more funding and support

Role:  Volunteer & I have not volunteered here yet, but I would. I did attend a community graduation service there to support a young graduate whom I had mentored, under Pat Foster, when she was younger.
