I had the life changing opportunity to be involved with the Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation, and I cannot express enough how impactful their work is. This organization brings hope to children and families battling cancer, continuously raising funds for new trials, less toxic treatments, and monthly assistance to ease the financial burden on parents fighting for their child’s life.
The foundation also provides supportive bereavement retreats for families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a child. Their unwavering commitment to raising awareness and funds truly sets them apart in the community.
Volunteering with this foundation has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I highly encourage others to get involved too. There are numerous ways to support their mission, from monetary donations to contributing toys for children undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Their efforts have even led them to unite various cancer foundations in D.C. to advocate for increased funding for childhood cancer research. Dena Sherwood, the founder, is dedicated to changing the landscape of childhood cancer, and her passion is inspiring. Additionally, the annual Cure Fest event, which brings together over 200 foundations each September, is a powerful reminder of the collective effort needed to raise awareness.
What I find most impressive is that 100% of donations go directly toward helping kids with cancer. This grassroots foundation has become one of the most respected organizations in the country, providing hope to countless families.
