Review for Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, TN, USA
A wonderful day volunteering at the sanctuary. It was educational and very fun! The projects and access to sanctuary personnel gave me a better understanding of what is needed for the “Sanctuary” of elephants. The Elephant Sanctuary also taught me so much about the need for international cooperation and sharing of information regarding the safety and care of elephants.
Projects included lifting and moving hay, plus stuffing hay in tires and big objects, etc. It doesn’t sound fun, but it was great! Plus elephants eat up to 18 hours a day …. They need lots of hay! AND the staff delegated all the heavy lifting to the strongest employees.
We also toured all three parts of the sanctuary, including barns, feeding areas, etc., which was amazing. Every aspect of the daily care for each elephant was explained to us. The staff loves and respects the elephants. There were many stories about Edie, Nosey, and the other wonderful elephants.
I highly recommend donating time and money to the Elephant Sanctuary. A special shout out to Laura Roddy who organized our day visiting the sanctuary.
