My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Cambodian Children's Fund, Santa Monica, CA, USA
I was homeward bound, having just completed a volunteering assignment in Sri Lanka with Australian Aid, when I watched a program on social media about CCF. Looking into it, I noticed they were advertising an Early Childhood Educator position that matched my interests, experiences, and qualifications. I applied and was fortunate to be appointed.
In awe of the amazing early childhood educators working at CCF, I spent three months supporting their curriculum and pedagogical development. I also had the opportunity to work with the Infants, Primary, and Secondary sectors of the school. The experience was made all the more rewarding because I felt genuinely welcome and authentically connected with the teams I worked with, and I continue to support them remotely. Educational changes are notoriously challenging, yet the teachers at CCF (and those who work alongside them) embraced the transformations within a short timeframe and have continued to sustain them.
Having worked as a volunteer with other NGOs, the factor that stands out about CCF is how well the organisation empowers its workers. This is important to me because empowered individuals are seen and heard. A valued workforce not only strengthens existing practices but also innovates new ideas, ensuring CCF’s sustainability and longevity; work that I envisage will continue across generations.
I felt very supported by San Morokoth, who oversees the volunteering program. She introduced me to other volunteers and organised interesting events for us. I particularly enjoyed participating in the food distribution program and Tom’s Shoes project, which gave me a glimpse into how vast CCF’s reach is across communities.
My three months seemed to fly, and I will always have fond memories of the young children and the teaching staff. The experiences have enriched me immensely, and I haven’t stopped telling people about them since returning home to Australia. I send all my fondest wishes to all those I met...Dr Julie xx
