Review for HopeKids, Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Our daughter Gracie is a HopeKid. She was born with a special heart and she got a transplant when she was a baby. She was four when she was playing with her dolls and had a stroke. So now she can only move her right arm and leg a little bit. She uses a wheelchair to get around most of the time; she has leg braces which help her to stand and walk short distances. We are at the hospital a lot for appointments to look at her special heart, to watch her brain, to get poked for labs, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, but Gracie is awesome through it all. Our family joined HopeKids in 2019. We started going to events because HopeKids made the events safe for Gracie who has a weak immune systems because of her heart transplant. It has been awesome to see Gracie hangout with other kids like her. She’s the only student in her class in a wheelchair but when we go to HopeKid events wheelchairs are everywhere and she doesn’t feel different. We have attended over 60 events. Gracie’s favorite was Skateland because she got to push her wheelchair to its limits! Our family loves the concerts and the musicals because we get to sing and dance; it is so much fun! Our family also loves the sporting events like the professional bull riders or the monster trucks! We also like the date night events because it’s cool that the parents get a break too. We are so grateful for HopeKids. Every time we go to events we meet other families who get our situation - who understand our health restrictions, food restrictions and our consistent trips to the hospital. Our family really looks forward to doing activities that don’t involve us going to the hospital. HopeKids gives our family Hope, which is a powerful medicine.
