Review for Book Industry Charitable Foundation, Ann Arbor, MI, USA
When I started my store, Alexandria on Main, in a small town in Appalachia, my main goal was to break even and help the community. We planned to live on my husband's plumber's income. A year in, we experienced a perfect storm. I had to have my appendix out with no insurance. I had complications. The store was closed a lot, losing money. Then we lost two of my uncles, my grandfather-in-law and my father-in-law, which necessitated unplanned out of state travel. Our daughter got Mono, then Flu A so that meant more time off for me. My town experienced flooding (store and home), followed by severe snow (the school kids missed 16 days)! Our savings is drained, cards are full, and BINC was the only thing that helped. We are not out of the woods yet, but the tide is turning because of their help. I was embarrassed to ask, but I was instantly put at ease. The weight is slowly lifting and the store's future is getting brighter! Thank you BINC!
